A fun day out in London

It’s hard to believe the summer holidays are nearly over. I have to admit to dreading the thought of 6 weeks with two small children but we’ve survived. This year we had a staycation as we’re on a budget, having moved house earlier this year. We’ve had some great days out in London and further afield and decided to treat ourselves to one last day out before thinking about the toddler starting nursery next month. It’s never a difficult decision if you ask the toddler what he would like to do. Of course he chose a trip to the London…

London Transport Museum Depot – We Love Steam!

We’re huge fans of the London Transport Museum so when we heard they had an open weekend at their depot we bought family tickets for today. The last time we went we didn’t have children so I was interested to see how our visit compared. London Transport Museum Depot Happily we all had a great day out. This year they’re celebrating the 150th anniversary of the underground and we had the chance to see the newly restored Metropolitan Line Steam Locomotive No. 1 and the Metropolitan Jubilee Carriage 353 which was originally built in 1898 and is one of the…

    Operation: Tire the Toddler

I’m not sure if it’s the long break from nursery over Christmas but my poor toddler appears to be bored and not tired enough to sleep. I know writing that makes me look like the worst mother which is why I’m trying to do something about it. This week is Operation Tire the Toddler. I’m going all out to physically exhaust him. Monday was soft play, Tuesday was a trip on the tube and the London Transport Museum, Wednesday was rhyme time at the library (which included a long walk there and back), Thursday he’s back at nursery for 4…

    Potty training for beginners

The toddler is almost two and a half and shows no interest in potty training at all. We have a potty, he’s seen it and might have sat on it once but soon filled it with toys and I put it away again. We’ve bought pull-up pants but he really didn’t like them so they’re sitting under the stairs, waiting until he’s ready. His nursery have said they will start sticking him on the toilet after every nappy change from September so I am keen to introduce him to the concept so he’s not taken by surprise. We were out…

    Day 21

I attended a really demoralising team away day today. To cheer myself up I had lunch looking across the Thames over to the South Bank. It was a wonderful sunny day, perfect for people watching. The day finished early so I walked through Covent Garden which was decorated for Christmas. I headed over to the London Transport Museum for a sneak preview before it opens tomorrow. They have a snazzy new layout but pretty much the same objects are on display as before their refit. I love these destination boards from buses.
