Did you know that this year we are celebrating 150 Years of Beatrix Potter? She is most famous for the Peter Rabbit stories which she wrote and illustrated, but was also a successful businesswoman, botanist, conservationist and farmer. Later this month we will be taking part in a blog tour to help celebrate 150 years of Beatrix Potter. We’ve been re-reading all our favourite Beatrix Potter tales which inspired our weekend bake, Mr McGregor’s chocolate patch cake. Mr McGregor’s chocolate patch cake First I baked a rather delicious chocolate tray bake with some help from the little people (mainly they…

Today I am taking part in the monthly Recycle & Create challenge: celebrating eco-friendly creativity in children! As a keen sew-er I have a large amount of fabric scraps leftover from craft projects. My son keeps mentioning that when he turns 6 next month he would like to start sewing which I’m really excited about. To get him started I thought we would make a scrappy ribbon wreath. You will need: flat wire wreath scraps of ribbon scissors How to make a simple scrappy ribbon wreath Take your ribbon and cut into small pieces about 8cm long. This was something…

Once again we were the lucky recipients of a bundle of craft kits from Baker Ross which kept my children busy during half term. With the weather turning a little less wintery (I can hope, can’t I?!), the children playing outside more and my tête-à-tête blooming, I declare it is time for Springtime crafting! We were sent a selection of Easter crafts. The children loved the mini birdhouse gift boxes and ceramic bird planters. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see I have been sharing some photos of these Easter makes over there. Easter egg fuse bead decoration We…

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. I have one more day with my children before they head back to school tomorrow. It has been a busy week with them around, but loads of fun, and we’ve created some great memories. The weather has been a mixed bag but we enjoyed a trip to our local Lido so the children could take their bikes out. You can see how muddy it was but that didn’t stop them. A chance of clothes *might* have been required when we got home. Our little village finally has its own gastro…

I recently shared our shamrock sun catcher craft for St Patrick’s Day but I am back with another sun catcher craft today! As I mentioned last week, I have started writing and designing projects for the Sizzix blog. My children were intrigued with the Sizzix Big Shot Plus and all the dies I have been experimenting with. I was showing them how it worked which inspired my first project. I used the Sizzix Bigz Die – Heartfelt by Tim Holtz to make an easy heart sun catcher. I think this would make a great Mother’s Day craft. Why not pop…

As much as we’re enjoying the half term holiday I admit to raiding our craft stash. My children love to wind down by making something and, with Mother’s Day coming up on 6th March, they have been working their way through some of the great Mother’s Day craft kits we were sent from Baker Ross. Heart Lantern Kits They loved the Heart Lantern kits, which contained 4 assorted colours and designs. Each kit included a card lantern template and coloured tissue paper. they were easy to assemble using a glue stick or glue dots. The kit costs £3.49 for a…

It’s been a while since we made any sun catchers to brighten the room, but with St Patrick’s Day coming up next month, it seemed the perfect time. We have Irish ancestry but I admit we don’t go all out to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Shamrock sun catcher craft The shamrock is symbol of Christianity in Ireland and associated with St Patrick. Our paper plate shamrock sun catcher is a simple craft activity for children. I traced a shamrock onto a paper plate and cut it out. My 4 year old cut a sheet of green cellophane into small pieces. I…

A while ago my daughter and I visited a fantastic exhibition at the Royal Academy, the Joseph Cornell Wanderlust exhibition. He was an American artist famed for his collages and assemblages. I found his work so inspiring so my daughter and I made a little Easter shadow box with some of the contents of our latest Bostik Blogger craft box. Supplies needed to make an Easter shadow box: blu tack plastic eggs chick pale yellow shredded paper buttons brown paper How to make an Easter shadow box: I made a pretty paper backdrop for the back of our shadow box using…
