My Christmas decoration making has begun! One of my favourite craft books is Fa la la la Felt which is full of festive inspiration, from ornaments, decorations and stockings. I’ve made a couple of projects from it, including the felt bird garland, as I just love working with felt. I’ve been dying to try my hand at felt biscuits ever since I saw them on the cover of Mollie Makes, which were designed by Ouissi Gresty. The patterns were quite simple so I bought a copy of her book ‘Felt biscuits’ but I found it a bit disappointing. It’s a small book and only covers patterns for five biscuits (pink wafer, bourbon, shortcake, custard creams and a jam sandwich) but does include a pattern for a biscuit tray and tin. This year I wanted to try something different for my Valentine’s Day card and I decided to make an early start on something handmade. The envelope is made from felt but lined with cotton and holds a special Valentine message from Edward to his daddy. As part of my Day Zero challenge I’m aiming to take part in at least one swap a month. So in the run up to Christmas I signed up for a couple of Christmas swaps. I was busy sewing, sewing, sewing…. I’ve taken part in a few handmade decoration swaps lately and made these lovely little birds for a garland from my favourite felt sewing book Fa la la la Felt. My partner asked for something red so I hope she likes it. We also managed a shopping trip for some more Christmas presents (see, I told you I was addicted to buying!). It’s been 6 weeks since I started my Day Zero list and I’ve made good progress. I’ve found having a list of things I want to achieve helps me focus. Sewing/craft projects So far I have made Edward a beanbag, finished covering our nursing chair, made my sister a draught excluder, made Edward a Clothkits cushion and finished a felt gingerbread house. I love this little felt gingerbread house I recently made. It’s just a couple of inches high so looks great on our mantle. It’s made from a pattern in the softies kit. It’s a really simple little project that only took me an evening but will look great as a Christmas ornament on our mantlepiece or hanging on our Christmas tree. I’m getting stuck into my Christmas craft list which is just as well, only 9 weeks left!

Whilst on holiday on the Isle of Wight I really wanted to make and drop another toy for The Toy Society. So that’s exactly what I did using this pattern. We sneaked out after the baby was in bed (don’t worry, my mum was at home!) and dropped the felt scottie dog by the children’s park by the Canoe Lake, Ryde. It was pretty easy to spot from the children’s park so I hope it gets found soon.
