    Family friendly Easter events in and around London

    The Spring term seems to be speeding past and we are already counting down until the Easter holidays. Life is incredibly full and busy but I know I need to start planning a fun Easter holidays for my two. We love to explore our local area and have been busy looking for family friendly days out and Easter events in our local area of Middlesex and further afield into London. We all love going to special Easter events in West London. Our fingers are crossed for warmer weather so we can get out and about. There are loads of family friendly…

    Ferrari: under the skin at the Design Museum

    A few weeks ago my husband and I headed over to the Design Museum in Kensington. We’ve been wanting to go ever since it re-opened in the old Commonwealth Institute on High Street Kensington. With my husbands birthday coming up I booked tickets to go and see Ferrari: under the skin which I knew he would love. My husband loves design and we had been huge fans of the old Design Museum when it had been at Shad Thames. I love visiting museums with the children but sometimes it is lovely to have a grown up day out. We dropped…

    Celebrating British Science Week with KidZania

    Living in London we are absolutely spoilt for choice with things to do at the weekend. One of our favourite places is KidZania, a city for children, based in Westfield London shopping centre. Today we were invited along to Kidzania as they were kicking off British Science Week with an explosive one day Wonderlab experience, in partnership with the Science Museum. Celebrating British Science Week with KidZania To be honest I’ve never heard of British Science Week but I’m all in favour of anything which encourages my children to have an interest in science. We were lucky enough to visit Wonderlab…

    Hunting the Egyptians at the Petrie Museum

    Last term Big Brother was learning all about the Egyptians at school. He’s finding Year 3 really interesting and I wanted to see if there was anything we could do to encourage him. I know we could have visited the British Museum but it’s always really busy at the weekend. Instead we planned a visit to the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology in London, part of University College London Museums and Collections. Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology in London After an exciting morning spent queuing for photos at Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross Station we walked down to the…

    Votes for Women at the Museum of London

    Last week I managed to visit the Museum of London before I went to Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium, London’s first cat cafe, for the launch of The LEGO NINJAGO Movie. I really wanted to go and see their new Votes for Women exhibition. This year marks the centenary of the 1918 Representation of the People Act which extended the vote to some women. Votes for Women display I used to work at the Museum of London and love going back to visit. I was really excited to see their new exhibition. The display forms part of the national commemorations marking the centenary…

    A day out at Barrington Court Somerset

    Between Christmas and New Year we travelled a lot of miles to see family and friends. We had to plan places to stop to break up the journey and picked Barrington Court in Somerset. It’s owned by the National Trust so was free for us as we are members. A day out at Barrington Court Somerset Barrington Court has the honour of being the first house acquired by the National Trust, in 1907. It’s a beautiful Tudor manor house begun around 1538 and completed in the late 1550s, with a vernacular stable court (dated 1675). It was almost derelict when it was acquired by…

    Wonderlab at The Statoil Gallery {Science Museum London}

    Just before Christmas we spent a day at the Science Museum London. It’s a fantastic, free, museum in London which we love to visit. The children love science so we thought we would visit Wonderlab at The Statoil Gallery, a paying hands-on exhibition, specially designed for children. Nothing beats the excitement of walking into the Science Museum. As you pass through security you get the most wonderful view of the huge engines in the Energy Hall. My children love this space, and it’s not hard to see why, especially when volunteers have some of the engines running. Anyway, we dragged the…

    Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things

    Welcome Monday! It was lovely having a slow weekend to re-charge our batteries. We baked, we walked in the woods, we crafted and watched films. It was bliss. Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things Our Christmas holidays lasted part way through the week so we were able to squeeze in one last day out at BrickLive Christmas. The kids loved playing with all the Lego and you can read my review of it here. I think my children were happy to go back to school. Fortunately it was only a 3 day week for them. This week will be tough…
