Reindeer nose ornaments for kids to make

My children have all kinds of fun ideas for Christmas crafts at the moment. I am trying to rein them back a little as we still have a few weeks to go but I love the fact they are excited for Christmas (I am too!). We picked up some really fun fillable baubles from our local craft shop and I knew they would be perfect for making our own hanging ornaments. We used them for Reindeer nose ornaments! Equipment to make Reindeer nose ornaments: Fillable baubles, ours are from Hobbycraft Chocolate malt calls Bostik Glu Dots Red pom poms Googly…

It was so cold and frosty this morning that you can definitely tell Winter is on it’s way. Are you celebrating Bonfire Night this week? We are looking forward to going to our local firework display. I’ve always loved fireworks and thankfully the children do too. I thought I would mark Bonfire Night and the tradition of setting off fireworks with a round up of 11 of my favourite crafts for kids. 11 Firework and Bonfire Night crafts for kids Easy cardboard tube rockets from the gingerbread house Paper plate fireworks by treading on lego Constellation lacking cards for firework…

Easy bottle top mandalas for kids

I love to craft and am a complete hoarder. So when I heard this months’ theme for the Project Recycle and Create blog hop was bottle tops I was pretty happy because I have been collecting them since the children started weaning. I tried making my own fruit purees but they preferred the shop bought ones. We went through every variety there was and as a result, have a pretty good collection of bottle tops waiting to be played with! I brought the box of bottle tops out and the children immediately remembered them. My 4 year old still asks…

    Hama bead gingerbread man

I’m trying really hard not to think about Christmas – but pretty much failing miserably! My children are excited about Halloween on Monday and my daughter has her birthday at the end of November. I try to concentrate on my daughter’s birthday but I know a few lots of Christmas crafts will be slipping in during November. A few weeks ago I spotted a cute nursery rhyme themed hama bead set. It included a gingerbread man so I had to buy it for me my children. As soon as my son saw it he wanted to make the gingerbread man. He…

Rag Rugs, Pillows and More book review

It’s not often I get sent a lovely adult craft book to review, but I am so pleased when I do! The latest book on my bedside table is the wonderful Rag Rugs, Pillows and More by Ragged Life founder, Elspeth Jackson. This is a wonderfully modern approach to a traditional, and rather forgotten, craft filled with beautifully contemporary projects all illustrated with gorgeous photography. Elspeth also includes all the techniques and tools you’ll need to get started on an exciting new craft. In this stunning new book, crafter Elspeth Jackson reinvents the old (and somewhat forgotten) technique of rag…

Celebrating Autumn with Baker Ross craft kits

Last week I helped on a trip my son went on with his Year 2 class. We stopped to look at the colour of trees and the children loved picking up conkers and pine cones on the way. Autumn is a great season as I think it is easier for children to see the change in the weather, the leaves changing and falling, and there are so many opportunities to craft! Baker Ross sent us some of their new Autumn craft kits to try at home and these have been great as both my children have been off school this week.…

    Pixelated mosaic heart decoration

We recently spent the day in the pretty town of Marlow where we came across a lovely pop up shop called the Craft Coop. This is a social enterprise business supporting over 150 artisans based in and around Maidenhead. Craft Coop takes over empty shops in town centres, bringing them back to life and offering a space for local artisans to showcase their products, as well as giving people the opportunity to purchase lovely handcrafted items. The Craft Coop in Marlow was just my kind of shop and one product which really stood out was the pixelated mosaic kits from Teresa Mills. I was…

A new mini quilt for our home

It feels as if I’ve lost my crafting mojo lately. You think there will be more time for crafting in the colder months but I seem to be busier than ever. The only thing I have been making time for is the latest Wild Olive Stitching Club. This week I finally put the last stitch in place to finish off a new mini quilt for our home. I’ve taken part in a few Wild Olive Stitching Clubs. You get sent a pattern to stitch every week via email and they build up to make a quilt. The latest Stitching Club…

    Spooky Oreo eye cookies

I have a lovely simple Halloween craft to share today. They’ve been a huge hit with my children and you’ll soon see why. Spooky Oreo eye cookies are simple to make but look brilliant as a special Halloween treat. Here’s how we made ours. You will need: 1 pack of Oreos Green gel icing Chocolate buttons Red icing How to make Spooky Oreo eye cookies The first step is to carefully remove the top of your Oreo. Slide a knife underneath the top biscuit and gently pull off. Some of mine broke whilst doing this but this half isn’t needed.…
