I’m so excited that we have a whole new year laid in front of us. There are so many fun days coming up which equals crafting opportunities! First of all we have Chinese New Year Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar, which is celebrated on Tuesday 1st February. The year 2022 is the Year of The Tiger. Chinese New Year Colour by Number activity Why not print these free Chinese New Year colouring sheets for kids, perfect for a splash of colour and…

It’s been a while since we had fun with a paper plate craft but with Chinese New Year coming up next month I thought it would be a good time to try something new. Did you know that 2016 is the Year of the Monkey? I have my own two little monkeys and we’d never made a monkey craft before – but we have now! How to make a Chinese New Year paper plate monkey 2 x paper plates brown paint googly eyes scissors black permanent pen sticky tape First you need to paint two paper plates with brown paint,…

We’ve had a lot of fun with the theme of Chinese New Year over the last few weeks. We love exploring other cultures and I find there’s usually a learning opportunity for the whole family! This year Chinese New Year falls on Thursday 19th of February and we’ve made some really fun crafts, such as our Chinese lantern sun catcher and Chinese New Year Year of the Sheep sun catcher. This year I’d love to try some Chinese cooking. My family love trying new foods so I think it could be fun for everyone, I just don’t know where to…

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I reviewed a Weekend Box. Andy, the guy behind the brilliant Weekend Box got in touch to ask if we wanted to review another one. In case you need reminding, a Weekend Box is a fun-filled activity box subscription for little ones aged 3-6, delivered right to your door (and they fit through your letter box too!). I also have a free Weekend Box code at the bottom of this post if you want to try this for yourself. We received a Chinese New Year themed box. My 4 year old loved…

My 3 year old loves to make sun catchers as much as I do. This afternoon she said she wanted to make another sun catcher so I whipped out a ready make kit I had bought from Yellow Moon (my sons’ school receives a small amount of money on any purchases I make). I love ready make craft kits and I adapted this one slightly to make it easier for her. I have to admit that we don’t celebrate Chinese New Year but that doesn’t stop us having fun with crafting around the theme. We’ve already made a Chinese lantern sun catcher but did you know that 2015 is the Year of the Sheep? We thought we’d make a sheep sun catcher. Our windows are full but there’s always room for one more, right? Materials needed to make a sheep sun catcher: Black paper Contact paper White tissue paper Scissors How to make a sheep sun catcher: I drew a sheep on a piece of paper and used this as a…

My children love to make sun catchers. They are so quick and easy to set up and they are my go to craft if one of them asks to make something and I don’t want to think about it too much. With Chinese New Year around the corner I set up a sweet Chinese lantern sun catcher activity for my 3 year old daughter yesterday. Material needed to make a Chinese lantern sun catcher: Paper Scissors Cellophane squares Contact paper How to make a Chinese lantern sun catcher: First draw your Chinese lantern. I drew mine with a black Sharpie…

Before I bombard you with Valentine crafts (and there’s a lot!) I wanted to share one last Chinese New Year craft. 2014 is the Chinese New Year of the Horse and although Chinese New Year is celebrated on Friday January 31st, celebrations will take place on Sunday 2nd February across venues including Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Shaftesbury Avenue and of course Chinatown itself. I’m not sure I’m ready to take the children to the celebrations just yet so instead we’ve been having fun at home. We’ve already tried our hand at Chinese New Year lanterns and our latest activity involved paint. Like…

It feels like the New Year has brought lots of crafting opportunities with it and the toddler and I have been busy. Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 10th, so we’ve made some fabric fortune cookies that look good enough to eat. They were really quick to make, so perfect for a cold afternoon. Supplies needed to make 5 minute fortune cookies You will need: a 4 inch circle (we drew round a can from the kitchen cupboard on a piece of cardboard) a 5 inch square of felt a 5 inch square of fabric a different fortune,…
