Autumn sensory tray with Sylvanian Families

Now my son is back at school Little Sis has been taking an interest in her own toys again. During the holidays she was happy to be directed by her older brother but I’m pleased to see her going back to her own toys now. This week she has been playing Sylvanian Families a lot so I though it would be fun to go on an autumn scavenger hunt and have some nature play. There are plenty of outdoor spaces near us so every day we have looked for conkers, acorns and different leaves. The leaves are changing colour really…

Owl porcelain plate from Baker Ross

Owls are always popular on stationery and fabric so we were delighted to be sent a box of 4 plain owl porcelain plates from Baker Ross to craft with. We previously received a set of their porcelain pens so we were able to decorate them straight away. The porcelain pens are easy to use, just give them a shake, take off the lid and press down gently to release the ink. The porcelain owl plates have pre-defined shapes on them which makes them easy to decorate, outlining owls and feathers. We found the ink ran slightly creating some interesting colour…

Pumpkin and gourd sun catcher decorations

Don’t shout at me or leave rude comments but we’ve started our Halloween crafting. I know it’s early but we thought we’d make a head start. The weather can’t seem to make its mind up what season it is which doesn’t help. One day we’re wearing winter woolies and the next we’re back in our sandals and shorts. Autumn is my favourite season and we’ve been planning Apple Days and our Autumn fairy garden. Therefore it seemed pretty natural to make some Autumnal sun catcher decorations. My 5 year old was asking when we would be able to buy our…

    On my mantel – October

I’ve had lots of fun decorating my mantel this month. The Autumnal colours have crept in and our nature table has been bursting with leaves, pinecones and seeds which the children have adored picking up. My vintage bus blind is still in its usual place on the mantel. We have done a little decorating this month but still haven’t decided on a permanent home for this. I love it though so I’m glad it’s still somewhere central. As well as the vintage bus blind I have my brass candlesticks, two of my favourite ceramic tea light houses, our clock and…

    Easy play dough acorns

I set up an Autumnal invitation to play for my 4 year old when he got home from school yesterday. He’s play dough crazy so I thought I would combine some Autumnal coloured play dough with some of the acorns we collected at the woods over the weekend. Equipment needed for easy play dough acorns: Autumnal coloured play dough – red, orange, yellow, green and brown Acorns and acorn caps (I placed them in a bag in the freezer over night to make sure there were no nasties in them) How to make easy play dough acorns: I set out…

    Autumn Stitching Club cushion finished!

Due to the Summer holidays I’ve been blogging a lot less than normal (for me). I love spending time with my children and have really enjoyed picking up some sewing in the evenings rather than my laptop. My latest project is Wild Olive’s Autumn Stitching Club project. This was quite simple compared to the Spring Stitching Club quilt I recently finished. There were only 13 hexagons to make but they were all really enjoyable to stitch. I love the Pumpkin Spice Latte, Caramel Apple and this pretty hexies of potted mums. I used a Moda Posh Pumpkins charm pack for…

Apple Day craft – cork print apple wreath

I can’t help but start thinking about Autumn. The weather has coolled down, the nights are darker quicker and we seem to have our shoes and jumpers on more than the previous week. I’m really hoping we can go to an event for Apple Day this year. We’ve been playing around with apple crafts and today I’m sharing with you our simple cork print apple wreath. Corks are great for crafting with, they’re a lovely size for small hands to grip, and small enough that you can make a really defined shape. Materials you will need to make a cork…

    What I’m reading: Halloween Crafts

I’ve noticed that Halloween seems to be more commercial every year and colourful images are already creeping onto Pinterest. Halloween Crafts: 35 spooky projects to make and bake has recently been published and is packed full of fun projects to fill your home this Halloween. My children are just getting interested in Halloween. The last few years I’ve dressed them up and we’ve carved a pumpkin but this year I think we will be doing a lot more. This book gives you some great inspiration, from spooky decorations to creepy costumes and scarily sweet treats. There are a couple of…
