This year I want to make a little mini quilt for my quilt gallery wall each month of the year. So when I was invited to take part in the Brother Crafts Challenge I just had to say yes.
I have some really pretty fabrics in my stash and decided to use this sweet Spring time print from Belle and Boo. It’s a Cotton Poplin which I’ve used in a couple of projects around the house. Featuring Boo and the butterfly tumbling across this traditional patchwork-style fabric, I knew it would be perfect for a Spring time mini quilt.

I cut out a piece, roughly 35x45cm, and matching pieces of quilt wadding and a linen backing fabric.
I pinned the three layers together before sewing around each hexagon featuring Boo the bunny with my sewing machine.
This helped to keep the layers together and also quilted the mini.
As the fabric was doing all the hard work for me I wanted to add a little embellishment. I found a length of cream lace and hand stitched it across the lower third of the mini quilt.
The next step was to make my own binding so I cut strips from some pretty Dear Stella fabric, to compliment the colour of the mini quilt. I wanted to machine stitch my binding which I don’t normally do. So first I hand basted it to make sure it would stay in the right place. Then I machine stitched it on.
To finish it off I added a little linen patch in the bottom right corner. I’m gathering ideas for a NanaCompany swap I found on Instagram so tried my hand at making her favourite patch, the instructions of which I found in Amy Sinibaldi’s book, Sweetly Stitched Handmades. I made the patch, then embroidered the word Spring, and hand stitched it in place.
I’ve hung my simple Spring time wall hanging on my quilt gallery wall and love it. Have you been stitching anything for Spring?
