How to make shortbread reindeer biscuits

Posted on January 15, 2018 by jenny

There has been quite a lot of baking this Winter. Who doesn’t love baking? My kids love it too and it always results in some tasty tea-time treats. When we were food shopping one day, one of the children spotted a kit to make your own shortbread reindeer biscuits. We’ve wanted to make these for a while because we all know that reindeer are just gingerbread men upside down!

How to make shortbread reindeer biscuits

I don’t have much experience of making shortbread as the whole family love gingerbread. But I was pretty happy to try this kit at home as we never have all the different bits needed to make this kind of thing!

The biscuit kit contained the dry ingredients for the shortbread, white icing, black icing, a cookie cutter and red jelly beans for decorating the biscuits.

My 6 year old decided this was her kit so we mixed up the dough, rolled it out and cut out the biscuits. It was a plastic gingerbread man cookie cutter, but when you turn it upside down it makes a reindeer head.

We baked and let our biscuits cool down before decorating them. Her older brother was allowed to decorate a few of his own biscuits. They used black icing for the face and white icing for the antlers, adding half a jelly bean (cut in two by me!) for a red nose.

You can see that this packet made quite a few biscuits, enough for us to make some extra biscuits too!

The reindeer biscuits tasted delicious, I had forgotten how yummy shortbread can be. The kit was really useful but it would be easy to make these using your favourite biscuit recipe and a normal gingerbread cookie cutter. They made a great Winter treat and were really fun to make too.

Awwww what a great little kit! I love how the reindeer came out, like an upside down gingerbread man. I also love those Pug biscuits…. just epically good!!

I love how the cutter looks a bit like an upside down person, you could use an existing cutter instead of having to buy the kit!
