How does a second pregnancy compare to the first?

When is the right time to have a second baby? The million pound question with no right or wrong answer.

My husband is an only child and we always knew we wanted at least two children. There’s a 3.5 year age gap between me and my sister which meant we hated each other when we were growing up but have been best friends since we both left home.

We decided to try for another baby in January and I’m pleased to day it didn’t take long. I missed a period and bought a Boots Value Pregnancy test (I’m a SAHM with no money!) and saw the blue line. I left my positive pregnancy test in the bathroom so my husband could see it when he returned from a night out. Unfortunately he was a little drunk and didn’t see it but when I pointed it out he was pleased.  We decided to keep the news to ourselves until the scan although I quickly bloomed so it’s been hard to physically hide it.

So far this pregnancy has felt very different to my first one. The early pregnancy signs were completely different so I actually missed them until I was 4 weeks pregnant! My abdomen seemed to change shape and harden quicker than last time too.

I’m finding it is hard being pregnant and looking after a toddler and I’m spending a lot of time worrying how I’ll cope when I have two. Fortunately my morning sickness has subsided at last, I found an mp3 from Tums 2 Mums called Managing Morning Sickness really helpful.

I’m going to see if I can keep a better record of my pregnancy than I did last time so check back for updates!
