Shopping and making at the Knitting and Stitching Show

Today I enjoyed my annual trip to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally. Just like last year it rained all day in London! Thankfully the weather didn’t affect our trip and we had a great day. Shopping and making at the Knitting and Stitching Show This year I went with a friend and we decided to try some of the many workshops on offer at the Show. Did you know there is a workshop program of over 250 classes? The Dressmaking Studio caters for beginners to professionals; The Creative Living Theatre showcases daily demos by sewing celebrities, and there…

The Spring Knitting and Stitching Show at Olympia

It’s been a busy week but all week I’ve been looking forward to visiting The Spring Knitting and Stitching Show at Olympia. It’s been a few years since I last went but you can never have enough fabric shopping. I deposited the children at school, hopped on the tube and found myself outside London Olympia. The Spring Knitting and Stitching Show is pretty similar to the other Knitting and Stitching Show I frequently go to at Ally Pally. This year it’s on between the 2nd-5th March and sells itself as the definitive event for anyone with a love of textile based…

A day at the Ally Pally Knitting and Stitching Show

Regular readers know every year I take myself off to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally. Despite living in London I never feel that I have a good sewing shop near me so I love looking round all the different exhibitor stalls. Ally Pally is one of my favourite buildings in London and it makes a great venue for the Knitting and Stitching Show. There are lot of large halls- one for the exhibitor stalls, an area for workshops, galleries showcasing some amazing work as well as tea rooms. I’ve been every year for the last couple of…

A trip to the Knitting and Stitching Show

This time of year (distinctly Autumnal!) makes me think of the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally. I’ve been every year since 2007 and I started blogging about my purchases from the Show. As there are just so many lovely to things to buy I have to be strict with myself so I blog my purchases and what I make to justify my purchases. In 2010 I bought a Clothkits doll cushion, Advent calendar printed panel, gingerbread man cross stitch and Union flag quilt pattern. I made everything except the Union flag quilt as I couldn’t find the jelly…

The Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally

The Knitting and Stitching Show is the highlight of my year. If you haven’t heard of it before it’s the textile event of the year, featuring hundreds of exhibitors, galleries from leading artists and groups, plus hundreds of workshops. I’ve gone every year since I heard about it but last year was really strict with myself and only bought items I actually needed or would make. This worked pretty well and I made everything I bought except one (due to an elusive Moda quilt pack). This year I was lucky enough to go with a friend and we took our…

    Knitting and Stitching Show

I managed to complete the application I had been working on all year and submit it on Friday. It felt like a complete anti-climax but I celebrated by heading off to the pub after work for a large glass of wine or two. On Saturday we visited Tate Modern to see the latest installation in the Turbine Hall. The work was by Doris Salcedo and was basically a large chasm in the floor, running from one end to the other. I didn’t think it was very special and it was actually more fun watching people’s response to it. Then we…

The Alexandra Palace Knitting & Stitching Show

Yesterday I took my annual trip to the Alexandra Palace Knitting & Stitching Show. This is a huge craft show that takes over much of Ally Pally, one of my favourite buildings. It’s a great venue with plenty of space for the textile exhibition, stands and workshops. The main entrance hall featured the work of The Subversive Stitcher and the Subverted Vintage Tea Towel series, featuring vintage tea towels with her subverted message stitched on each one. They made for a great display, even if some of the ‘offensive’ ones had been removed for the more sensitive visitors. This year…
