Isle of Wight shopping vintage

Ryde charity shops

Luckily for us we get to spend a lot of time on the Isle of Wight. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a small island off the South Coast of England. It’s where I grew up and where my family live. It’s also the best stomping ground for charity shops, especially Ryde, where my mum and sister happen to live.

I always make sure to spare an hour or so to walk down the beautiful High Street into Union Street and down to the beach and there are plenty of charity and antique shops to keep you busy along the way. Our last visit resulted in a particularly good haul.

Starting off at the top of Ryde you will find the Caring Cancer Trust where I bought this boxed vintage handkerchief for 50p. I love the fact it was a Christmas present which has remained untouched.  Nearby is the RSPCA where I picked up this bundle of vintage lolly sticks for 10p. I thought the wooden sticks would be great for craft but included were these 1970s plastic lolly sticks featuring The Flash and Batman.

This is a great place to stop for a breather before carrying on to The Salvation Army, British Red Cross, Age Concern, Earl Mountbatten Hospice, British Heart Foundation and PDSA.

Over the road you will find my favourite charity shop, Save the Children, where I bought recent copies of Craft magazine for 10p each, before heading down Union Street to the Cancer Research UK shop.

From here it’s rude not to carry on down the hill, admiring the view over the Solent to the mainland, before enjoying an ice cream on the esplanade.

Ryde is a great place and well worth a day trip or longer!
