Last weekend we took a trip to RHS GLOW 2022 at RHS Garden Wisley with the kids. We love to see Christmas lights and last year visited both the Lap of Lights at Silverstone and Christmas at Kew. This year we decided to try something different and went to RHS GLOW 2022. We love visiting RHS Garden Wisley but were looking forward to visiting after dark.
RHS GLOW 2022 at Wisley with kids
I made sure to book our tickets as soon as we could and visited the weekend it opened. We love this kind of experience and think it makes a great family activity in the festive period. We loved the fact that 99% of the Glow lights were energy-efficient LED lights and all the mains power comes from renewable sources.
We entered the gardens and followed the signs for RHS Glow. There were several festive-themed chalets selling food and drink so we stopped for some food first. Then it was time to start the trail which took us past some of the well known sites at RHS Garden Wisley, such as Jellicoe Canal and old Laboratory.
The kids loved Wisteria Walk and took a lot of selfies there!
It was a totally different experience in the dark but just as much fun! It wasn’t too busy so there was plenty of space to stop and look at the lights.
I really liked all the different lights lighting up Oakwood. There was a well timed food truck where we stocked up on mulled wine to warm our hands up and were able to admire the view.
Then it was on to the Glasshouse where there was a fun and magical spectacle of lights with music and fire to add to the drama. The Glasshouse was open and it was fun to see the plants lit up – it also gave us a chance to warm up!
From there we passed along through Seven Acres where there were different lit up trees. There was a bit of smoke in this area which wouldn’t clear so the lights weren’t as clear as they should have been.
The trail finished back where we started with an amazing installation reminiscent of the Northern Lights, which instead of being in the sky were on the ground. The colours changed slowly which were so pretty to look at.
We stopped for some more snacks at the festive-themed chalets before heading into the shop.
We spent about an hour walking round the trail and another hour sitting down to eat and browse the shop. There were more food options available at the cafes and restaurants at RHS Wisley if you wanted.
RHS GLOW 2022 is open until 8th January from 4-9pm.
