Review: The Second Baby Survival Guide

Almost since the day we took Edward home from the hospital I’ve been wondering when was the best time for baby number two. I love Edward and I’m surprised how much I enjoy being a mother. I’m not sure what I expected but the last seven and a half months have been exciting and exhilarating as well as hard work and exhausting 🙂 However, I’m 33 and keen to expand my little family before too long so when I was given the opportunity to review The Second Baby Survival Guide I jumped at the chance.

The book was written by Naia Edwards, a mother of four, so she writes with her own experiences of motherhood and parenting. The book covers topics such as pregnancy and birth, sleeping and feeding solutions for two, sibling behaviour and development and finding time for your children, your partner and yourself.

The Second Baby Survival Guide is easy to read over eight chapters, and includes helpful hints and others’ experiences and a list of resources. I particularly enjoyed reading the section on pregnancy as I hadn’t really thought about the reality of being pregnant whilst looking after another baby. I also found the section on brothers and sisters interesting, which covers behaviour, development and potential rivalry.

Reading The Second Baby Survival Guide was a bit of a wake up call for me and has made me think about things a bit more before I rush into trying for another baby. The book asks lots of questions but provides many possible answers to help you make your own mind up. I would recommend it as a must read for anyone contemplating baby number two!

A copy of this book was provided for the purpose of review.
