Now lockdown is easing we don’t seem to be exploring as much as we were. We can go further afield and more attractions are opening up, which means we are going further for our days out. On one of our many puppy walks/geocaching expeditions we came across Pynchester Moat in Ickenham. We went on a lovely sunny evening and it was the perfect length of walk for our pup.

Exploring Pynchester Moat, Ickenham

The moated site known as Pynchester lies in a bend of the River Pinn, behind houses in Copthall Road West and just within Harefield Parish. It’s a Scheduled Ancient Monument and one of only a few medieval moated sites left in Greater London. It was easy to park nearby and there was an information sign so we could discover more about the history of it.

We visited a few weeks ago and the site was covered in Spring flowers and green leaves. It was pretty and shaded and the path was easy to follow round. The actual moat was dry but there was a stream running alongside the historic site.

We walked onto the site to discover the geocache. It was a pretty easy find amongst the stinging nettles. It was possible to see the banks and ditches and a nice little site to explore with the children.

It’s on the edge of Ickenham and a really pretty spot to explore. We followed the River Pinn northwards for a bit which is a part of the Celandine Route, running parallel with the Breakspear Road back towards Ruislip.
