If you’re looking for a screen-free activity to keep the kids busy then look no further than a jigsaw puzzle. We’ve always enjoyed an activity that the whole family can enjoy together and puzzles tick all the boxes for us. The dining room table is the heart of our home and the perfect place to sit and puzzle.
The history of the jigsaw puzzle
Did you know that John Spilsbury, an engraver and mapmaker, is credited with inventing the first jigsaw puzzle in 1767? He used a map, and since then, pretty much anything has been made into a puzzle, keeping children and adults busy for hours.
Positively puzzling with Ravensburger’s Dog’s Delight
Ravensburger kindly gifted us one of their puzzles, a 500 piece puzzle, called Dog’s Delight.
Say ‘sausages’! This puzzle has a perfect pick of posing pooches by artist Howard Robinson. These dogs certainly are a delight! As we recently bought a puppy we thought this dog themed puzzle was perfect for some family time.
We use a big board to do our puzzles. We like a puzzle the whole family can get around (and it can be moved when we need the dining room table back!). The children couldn’t wait to start the puzzle and we kept it out for over a week, adding a little bit each day.
The puzzle features 6 different dogs, we all had our favourites, and it was fun watching them appear before our eyes. I have to admit that our puppy enjoyed the puzzle too. One of the children dropped some of the puzzle pieces on the floor and the puppy found them! He had a nibble of the pieces but I think we rescued them before he totally destroyed them…
A puzzle can be the perfect escape from daily hustle and bustle, offering mindful moments and a soothing way to keep the brain active at whatever age. So why not pick a puzzle and join us in #positivelypuzzling this spring!
