Personalised handprint bag for a Father’s Day gift

The children are really looking forward to Father’s Day next month. They’ve been working on their handmade gifts for a while. They just love making handmade gifts and I like to think they mean a little more than a generic shop bought gift. We’re lucky to have half term in front of us, so I hope you are inspired by our Father’s Day personalised handprint bag and get crafting for Fathers Day!

Personalised gifts make a great keepsake. I’m probably a little guilty of keeping everything my children make, but they grow up so quickly that I just want make little keepsakes like this. We’ve made a few things using their footprints or handprints and they make super cute personalised gifts.

My husband is a practical man so I though he would appreciate a bag which he could use to keep things in. I wanted to personalise it by decorating it with the children’s handprints. We actually made two versions because the children were enjoying creating them.

We used:
A calico selection pack from Art and Craft Factory
Pack of 12 Berol Fabric Pens, also from Art and Craft Factory

How to make a personalised handprint bag for Father’s Day

The calico selection pack included a shopping bag, pump bag, pencil case and apron. I thought this was the easiest way to make our gift, definitely a lot quicker than me trying to make a bag for the children to decorate.

The weather was beautiful and sunny so we took our bags and fabric pens outside to craft in the garden. First we decorated the shopping bag. The children took it in turns to draw around each others hand, then they added their names and some decorations.

The Berol fabric pens were really easy to use. You can use them to draw designs onto all kinds of natural and man-made fabrics. The designs are easy to fix by simply allowing your design to dry for 5 minutes before covering the fabric with a clean tea towel and ironing it for a few minutes on a cotton setting. The fabric can then be washed without the danger of washing the design away.

We also decorated a smaller bag but this time added all our handprints. The children thought this was really fun and we added our names and the year so we could remember how small their hands were.

It reminded me of the time we decorated our teepee with the children’s handprints which is still going strong. I think our personalised handprint bags make a lovely keepsake for a Father’s Day gift. I can’t wait to help the children wrap them up this week.
