    Thiepval Memorial, France

Thiepval Memorial, France, originally uploaded by Jennifer Young. We’re just back from a few days in France where we went to participate in a memorial service at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the First World War. The weather was beautiful and we were surprised how many people attended the service. My great uncle died somewhere near Thiepval in July 1916 and we think we’re the only family members ever to visit the spot. We left a photograph of him at the memorial, as other families, schools and associations did for their lost men.

    moo postcard and notecard

moo postcard and notecard, originally uploaded by Jennifer Young. I really want to make our own invitations for our wedding. My heart sank when my mum mentioned she had been looking at embossed invites and I quickly jumped in and told her we’d been thinking about using our own photographs through moo.com to send out save the date cards, invites and RSVPs. So last week we had a trial run and ordered a pack of postcards and notecards using our favourite images and I love them. We can put our own text on the back, they are simple, and best…

    A windy day

It’s just such strange weather for June, windy, windy and windy, especially on our little island off the south coast of England. I spent the morning trying on wedding dresses, which was both traumatic and strangely fun. I’ve been adamant all along that I don’t want to wear some white meringue monstrosity. Sure enough the first dress shop I went to tried squeezing me into dresses which I hated. The second dress shop was the opposite and let me try on what I wanted. Altogether I only tried on six dresses before I found the perfect dress. Hooray. We spent…

    I've got one of these

In tacky wedding news we don’t yet have a date but we do have a countdown clock and it’s wonderfully kitsch. We’re currently on the Isle of Wight looking at more venues and re-visiting a couple of favourite venues. I’m experiencing the full horror of dress appointments tomorrow! Wish me luck. PS I’ve finally turned off my spam filter as some people told me they had difficulty leaving comments. I just thought nobody read my blog so please feel free to say hello if you’re lurking 🙂

    toadstool

toadstool, originally uploaded by Jennifer Young. I perfected my toadstool for the toadstool swap and it stands un-supported, topped with my favourite Cath Kidston corduroy. I’m so happy my swap partner likes corduroy too as I love this fabric. It will be winging its way to America tomorrow. I hope you like it Tiffany!

    Another weekend gone

I spent the weekend enjoying the sunshine on the Isle of Wight with my family. My youngest niece was particularly cute, although she didn’t really want her photograph taken.

We did a lot of this…

We escaped to Brussels after work on Friday and have just returned after a lovely long weekend. The weather was beautiful so we are both sunburnt from spending three days out and about. We seemed to walk the length and breadth of Brussels and visited some wonderful churches and Art Nouveau buildings, as well as soaking up the atmosphere in various bars and tea shops. I squeezed some waffles into my bag so at least I have brought a little goodness back with me – I wish I could say the same about the weather.

    Further toadstool progress

When I got home from work this evening, on the advice of Amy, I scrambled around in the garden for small pieces of gravel. Then I had another attempt at making a toadstool that can stand on it’s own two feet (or stalk!). Sadly, although this one is lovingly embellished, it needs the support of a wall. I’m off to Brussels for the Bank Holiday weekend so my next attempt will have to be next week, when I’ll be attempting to make the stalk flare out at the bottom. I’m so glad I started this swap early!
