Easy Living magazine had a choice of two Cath Kidston bags with this months issue. I never buy the magazine but did today-just for the bag. I chose the pop flowers print and have already used it to carry nappies and bottles for a trip out today! The magazine also has a 15% voucher for Cath Kidston and a copy of the latest catalogue. My contribution for this weeks The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers is this portrait I took of my husband and son yesterday. My poor husband has recently been discharged from 2 weeks in hospital where he underwent an emergency operation for an abcess in his bowel. He’s recovering well but it’s been hard for him being parted from his new son. He is just about able to hold him again. Who would have thought a 6-week old could make so much mess? In a typical day Edward seems to go through at least one clothes change, 8 muslins, 3 bibs and a mattress fitted sheet. We also learnt today that certain brands of bib melt in the tumble drier. Oops. Life has calmed down enough for us to think about knitting something in the beautiful Natural Nursery Knits that we picked up in our favourite shop in Ryde a few weeks ago. Yay, my husband was finally discharged from hospital this afternoon. After 31 trips to visit him (often with poor little Edward in tow) I think we are all relieved he has been allowed to recuperate at home.

Taggies are cute comforters for babies, often made from two different fabrics and edged with ribbons. Edward received a lovely taggie from Claire and at 5 weeks he is very into holding, grabbing and pulling, so this was a perfect gift. (This isn’t a great photo of him in action – but doesn’t he look cute?!). When he is relaxing we make sure to put the fleecy red side of the taggie for him to look at. Today I received an exciting parcel from Megan at Maximum Rabbit Designs who was my partner in Claire’s Pincushion Swap. Megan likes buttons, felt and all things vintage as much as I do 🙂 The parcel was beautifully contained in a round box, decorated with button stamps and plenty of space for a photograph – no guesses for whose picture I will be putting in there! The pincushion has been made from vintage fabric embroidered with flowers. Megan also included some vintage buttons, threads and some of her ‘button’ cotton reel stamps. Edward has been busy learning new tricks. These include spitting gripe water back at mummy, stretching, smiling, grabbing, coughing and scratching (unintentionally I hope!). I’m amazed how quickly he is changing and sad that my husband is missing out on these little things.Our neighbour rang up this morning to say our cat had returned. He had been missing for over a week and just turned up this morning as if he had never been away. He was very thin and we think he may have got shut in one of the garages behind our house. Today we had our first picnic with some friends who had come over to visit daddy in hospital. The weather has been amazing since we’ve been on the Isle of Wight and it has been lovely to get out and about everyday. This was followed by our first visit to a farm when we stopped for some delicious food at the Bluebells cafe at Briddlesford. The food was delicious – butternut squash and thyme soup followed by bread and butter pudding for mummy. They had a very cute calf in a pen next to the cafe and a lovely farm…
