It was so cold today that I just couldn’t face coming home from work to a nice warm house, grabbing my swimming gear and heading off out to the swimming pool. Now I love my ante-natal swimming class. Over the last few weeks it’s the only time I feel comfortable. The swimming instructor is lovely and I get to meet lots of other pregnant women. Details here. I spent all day promising myself that if I didn’t go swimming I would have a bath. We’re been in our house for 3 years and I’ve never tried out the bath. We…

We took the opportunity of a quiet weekend to go on a tour of the labour ward today. They run tours every Sunday at 2pm and I was anxious to familiarise myself with the hospital. All my antenatal appointments are at the hospital, even though I could attend a antenatal clinic near my house. I hate hospitals so my hope is that the frequent trips will make it less scary when the big day comes. Is that stupid or do other people do the same? Anyway, a few things I learnt today: The delivery rooms are really small and full…

I’ve never been to the Baby Show before but I would really like to. It’s a couple of weeks before my due date and I’m sure I would get some last minute inspiration if I go! I came across a competition to win two tickets to the Baby Show this evening. Make sure you enter for your chance – and let me know if you go! WIN tickets to the Baby Show. Hubby put the cot up today. It makes the nursery look tiny but I’m pleased we’re one step closer to being ready for the big day.

Whilst browsing the web tonight I found this lovely card which sums up what I would love to receive from my husband this year. Since he bought his iphone it is barely out of his hand, that’s if he’s not on the laptop. I was trying to get him to discuss our birth plan this evening and he said he’d make a note of it on his iphone! What’s wrong with using his memory?! It’s made by the very talented Helen and available to purchase in her etsy shop.

We’re struggling to choose a name for our little one. We picked a few but made the mistake of telling my mum who promptly told everyone. There are some things you want to keep to yourself which is why I’ve decided to keep any future name choices to ourselves until the baby is actually here. Tonight I came across this website which suggests baby names based on your name, your partners name and surname. It suggested Asho which apparently means means Pure Of Heart and is Persian in origin. I’m not sure that it’s my kind of name but it’s…

Today I had my first appointment with an osteopath. It felt very strange having my spine pushed and prodded and there were a few issues that I wasn’t even aware of. The osteopath specialised in pregnant women so I knew I was in safe hands. We also visited our first nursery today. It’s attached to my husband’s place of work so would be very convenient if we decide to send the baby there. Lots of unanswered questions at the moment though, such as will he still have a job in a few months, will I go back to work full-time,…

I was lucky enough to receive some new craft books for Christmas. Added to my extensive ‘craft’ shelf I now have a copy of Sew by Cath Kidston and Making Chidren’s Clothes by Emma Hardy. I also got a copy of the Sewing 2010 day to day calendar which will hopefully inspire me to use – and not just look at – my lovely sewing basket more often this year. However, only 10 weeks to go until my due date so I’d better make a start on the cot quilt soon!

I managed to make a couple of handmade gifts for Christmas presents this year. First of all I made this tree from some patchwork hexagons and framed it for my mum. It was completely inspired by this photo on flickr by the very talented Liesl. Then I attempted this doorstop from Clothkits which I picked up at the Knitting and Stitching show at Ally Pally last November. The fabric was slightly different from the instructions so it took me longer than it should have. Again, I made this for my mum although it was quite difficult to part with 🙂

Every year Julia gives you the chance to win a homemade something during Advent. I’m sure it will be better than my sewing (see last year’s stocking below) so pop on over and join in!Â
