    Home and away

We’ve returned home to London for a couple of days and are now back on the Isle of Wight as my husband has an appointment with his consultant tomorrow. Since we’ve been at home it has finally been just the two us as my husband has gone back to work and we’ve had a couple of adventures to the local shops and Brent Cross.

    Dummy or not?

A couple of weeks ago I went to Mothercare to purchase a dummy clip. I know that people are divided on the issue of whether to give a child a dummy but we find it useful to help settle Edward at night. We are only planning on using it until Edward is 3 months old. My 6 year old niece still uses a dummy to help her sleep at night although she knows she shouldn’t be using one at her age! When I asked one of the shop assistants in Mothercare if the dummy clips they stocked were compatible with…

    The Gallery: Week 11

The theme for The Gallery this week is: Men. Pictures of the men in your life. There are two men in my life, my lovely husband and brand new baby boy. In the short time since he was born (7 weeks!) I have managed to take more photographs of the baby than my husband during the years since we met and got together. In recognition of the only man who can put up with me I have found my favourite photographs of him: kite flying on the Isle of Wight persuading me a weekend on a canal boat in February…

    The Gallery: Week 10

It’s taken me a while to come up with a picture for this weeks’ The Gallery. I have spent ages looking through my albums. The theme was to paint a picture of the world we live in: The hidden bits, the bits you feel are special and people should know about. The bits people wouldn’t necessarily see. In summer 2008 we were fortunate enough to get places on a tour of the sound mirrors at Dungeness. I think we had heard about them on Radio 4 and were really keen to go and see them for ourselves, combined with a…

    Cath Kidston iphone case

Easy Living magazine had a choice of two Cath Kidston bags with this months issue. I never buy the magazine but did today-just for the bag. I chose the pop flowers print and have already used it to carry nappies and bottles for a trip out today! The magazine also has a 15% voucher for Cath Kidston and a copy of the latest catalogue. I’ve been a bit disappointed with their childrens clothes and complete lack of maternity clothes. However, I was really excited to see Cath Kidston iPhone covers! They come in four patterns: mini dot cherry, electric flowers…

    The Gallery: a portrait

My contribution for this weeks The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers is this portrait I took of my husband and son yesterday. My poor husband has recently been discharged from 2 weeks in hospital where he underwent an emergency operation for an abcess in his bowel. He’s recovering well but it’s been hard for him being parted from his new son. He is just about able to hold him again. I’ve been keeping count of all the nappies he has missed out on changing for when he’s well enough to help out again! This post is for week 9 of…

    Clean washing

Who would have thought a 6-week old could make so much mess? In a typical day Edward seems to go through at least one clothes change, 8 muslins, 3 bibs and a mattress fitted sheet. We also learnt today that certain brands of bib melt in the tumble drier. Oops. Life has calmed down enough for us to think about knitting something in the beautiful Natural Nursery Knits that we picked up in our favourite shop in Ryde a few weeks ago. The book contains patterns for some beautiful projects including an initialled flannel, bird mobile, fairisle papoose, booties and…

    Good news

Yay, my husband was finally discharged from hospital this afternoon. After 31 trips to visit him (often with poor little Edward in tow) I think we are all relieved he has been allowed to recuperate at home.

    Catching up

I meant to photograph Edward every day but funnily enough sleep deprivation, dirty nappies and lack of time have prevented me. I’ve brought together some of my favourite photographs into mosaics which I will aim to continue uploading every week/month for as long as possible: Week 1 Week 2Week 3 Week 4 Week 5
