So last night I tried one of the projects on my to-do list – an embellished tshirt for my little boy. I followed an old pattern from Sew Hip magazine. It was pretty simple consisting of an applique motif decorated with colourful ribbons for the mane and tail. I was excited as this was my first time using fusible webbing and I have plenty of other projects I want to try using this. Everything was going well until I managed to melt the ribbon on to the iron not once, but twice! I removed the gunk with a paste of…

As you may be able to tell, I’m a tad obsessed with my growing little family. I suppose we waited a while until we started a family and now I am enjoying every single second of family life. We didn’t have an easy start as my husband was taken ill when Edward was only two weeks old and now has ongoing health problems. However, before Edward was born we booked a week away in Cornwall and we thoroughly enjoyed our first family holiday last month. This photograph was taken in Polperro by my father-in-law who joined us for a day.…

I have been busy making hexagons for some time. It’s the kind of craft project you can do when you have 5 minutes and I’m trying to make some every evening. I even managed to take some away on our recent holiday. I didn’t realise quite how many fabrics I had – there’s plenty of scope for all kinds of patchwork projects in a variety of colours 🙂 I’m making the hexagons the traditional way using English paper piecing. Some are big, some are small, and I am planning to use them on some Christmas presents!

I seem to have lost my crafting mojo recently. It’s probably due to a lack of ‘me’ time which is natural with a new baby. However, Edward has gone to bed at 7 since we brought him home from hospital and I don’t feel the need to collapse on the sofa after he has gone to bed as much as I used to. So I recently picked up my sewing machine and made a new bib for him from some lovely fleecy fabric. complete with milk stains! It’s not the best thing I have ever made but it was practical…

So I’ve discovered I have no exciting photographs of creatures. It’s not that I don’t like wildlife I just don’t see much of it living in Zone 3! I have found a lovely photograph of a robin I took at Norwood Cemetery in January 2008. I’ve always been fascinated by the Magnificent Seven: Kensal Green Cemetery – 1832, West Norwood Cemetery – 1837, Highgate Cemetery – 1839, Abney Park Cemetery – 1840, Nunhead Cemetery – 1840, Brompton Cemetery – 1840 and Tower Hamlets Cemetery – 1841. This photograph was taken in West Norwood Cemetery after I became obsessed with finding…

The theme for Week 15 of The Gallery is motherhood. Although this isn’t the best photo of me and Edward it’s one which makes me smile. Before I became a mother I had no idea what it really entailed and I’m no expert yet. Edward is now 3 months old and so far I’ve spent most of my time feeding and burping him. I permanently have a stack of muslins somewhere on my person and the washing machine is always on to make sure I have a fresh supply to hand. This photo was taken on our first family holiday…

I took poor Edward to have his twelve week jabs today. Although we got through the eight week ones with barely a whimper it wasn’t the same today. By the time I got him out of his buggy, removed his shorts and held him gently on my lap he seemed to know exactly what was going on. After we left the surgery he continued to give me the evil eye until he eventually fell asleep in his buggy. I think I might ask his father to take him to the next appointment as it was awful watching his reaction to…

I’m having difficulty keeping up with the prompts for The Gallery but I’m really enjoying the opportunity to look at all my photos so I will persevere. Crossbones graveyard, Southwark Some months ago we headed to Borough Market for the morning. Down a side street we came across the memorial gates to the Crossbones graveyard, an unconsecrated graveyard dating back to medieval times. It’s thought that it was used as a burial ground for local prostitutes. I love the way the gates have been used by both men and women to leave their own messages, flowers and decorations. A great…

I’ve realised it’s time to have some sort of routine in our life. For the last three months I’ve completely followed Edward with feeding and sleeping times. Luckily he’s been happy to go to bed at 7 and with a couple of feeds he’ll sleep to 7 the next day. However I want him to sleep through the night more regularly and books suggest I can help him with this by reducing his 3 am feed or replacing it with boiled water. He’s been having SMA Hungry Baby formula for a while and it seems to fill his tummy for…
