Today we went to the Farnborough International Airshow 2010. It was a bit of a drive but my husband really wanted to see the Vulcan fly and I love the Red Arrows! We couldn’t leave Edward behind but needed something to protect him from the noise of the aircraft. A friend recommended Peltor ear defenders which come in pink or green. They were perfect for the job! They fitted snuggly over baby ears and kept all unwanted noises out. As you can see, Edward slept through the day 🙂

A couple of weeks ago Edward and I went along to a Nappuccino organised by a lovely lady from The Washable Nappy Co. Ages ago a friend gave me a leaflet about real nappies and I was interested to try them out for many reasons: 8 million nappies are thrown away in Britain every day and 90% of those end up in landfill each baby uses between 4 -6000 nappies and these will fill about 160 black bin liners children in real nappies tend to toilet train on average around 6 months earlier than those in disposables (!) there is…

Over the last few weeks I have been lucky to win some prizes through some of my favourite websites and new blogs. The first was a Mac-in-a-Sac waterproof jacket from Adventure Togs via British Mummy Bloggers. Useful for when we’re out and about on one of our many walks! Then I won a scooter bag from Micro Scooters Ltd via Netmums. I might have to put this away for a few years until Edward has a scooter 🙂 Finally I won a Disney game for the Nintendo DS called Club Penguin via UrbanVox. I love my DS and am looking…

Here’s my latest favourite photo of my little man at 17 weeks. How the time is flying – and my maternity leave 🙁 In the last couple of days Edward has done a 360° on his baby gym much to our surprise. We both kept going into the lounge and shouting to the other “Did you move him?!”. Edward has also been lying on his side a lot which means he is close to turning over. I’m both happy that he’s developing well but sad that he’s no longer my little baby. I love watching him grow but wish I…

As Edward is now 17 weeks (where’s the time going!?) we decided to start him on some baby rice. He can sit up in his new Stokke highchair, he puts things in his mouth, and watches us eating. We gave him one spoonful of baby rice mixed with 10 spoonfuls of milk. It looked quite gross but must have tasted ok as he ate a couple of spoonfuls 🙂 He took to the spoon really well and could have eaten a lot more than the recommended spoonful!

A couple of weeks ago I came across a thread on British Mummy Bloggers looking for people to try Garofalo pasta. Apparently Garofalo is one of Italy’s favourite pasta brands. It’s available nationwide from Ocado as well as in many delis up and down the country. I was sent two packets to try: some radiatori and spaghetti. We are big pasta eaters in our household so I was keen to try a new brand of pasta. I used the spaghetti in a simple spaghetti bolognese and we had the radiatori with pesto from Waitrose. Both pastas were easy to cook…

So last night I tried one of the projects on my to-do list – an embellished tshirt for my little boy. I followed an old pattern from Sew Hip magazine. It was pretty simple consisting of an applique motif decorated with colourful ribbons for the mane and tail. I was excited as this was my first time using fusible webbing and I have plenty of other projects I want to try using this. Everything was going well until I managed to melt the ribbon on to the iron not once, but twice! I removed the gunk with a paste of…

As you may be able to tell, I’m a tad obsessed with my growing little family. I suppose we waited a while until we started a family and now I am enjoying every single second of family life. We didn’t have an easy start as my husband was taken ill when Edward was only two weeks old and now has ongoing health problems. However, before Edward was born we booked a week away in Cornwall and we thoroughly enjoyed our first family holiday last month. This photograph was taken in Polperro by my father-in-law who joined us for a day.…

I have been busy making hexagons for some time. It’s the kind of craft project you can do when you have 5 minutes and I’m trying to make some every evening. I even managed to take some away on our recent holiday. I didn’t realise quite how many fabrics I had – there’s plenty of scope for all kinds of patchwork projects in a variety of colours 🙂 I’m making the hexagons the traditional way using English paper piecing. Some are big, some are small, and I am planning to use them on some Christmas presents!
