Before having a child I hadn’t appreciated just how they learn all the time, their brains are like a sponge. Over the last few weeks Edward has started copying what I do. It’s amazing watching him. He’s obsessed with picking baby wipes out of a packet but will not only pick them out, he’ll also use them to wipe the dining room table, wipe his mouth and wipe round his sippy cup at meal times. I’ve been trying to turn it into a game to teach him about tidying up and keeping clean. He’s started picking up the dustpan and…

Today is a very special day as it’s Edward’s first birthday. Please let me wallow in nostalgia and post a picture of his first day and one year later. I’m so happy to be Edward’s mummy and am looking forward to spending the next year with him!

1. I’m currently in Bruges, my favourite European city, with my husband, son and mum. I’ve spent the last two days drinking beer, eating yummy food and doing lots of sight seeing. We’ve also been on a horse and carriage ride around Bruges and a canal boat trip. 2. Edward is 1 year old tomorrow and I am so very happy to share the day with my husband and mum. I’ve had an amazing year and loved every second since he was born. 3. I’m cheerful because I have a friend to share my thoughts, worries and fears with. She…

The theme for The Gallery had me thinking and looking back through my archives for pictures of trees. My son is obsessed by them and spent the first few months of his life sitting in his pushchair and watching the trees above him. However. before I found a suitable picture I remembered what my husband did at the weekend. We love geocaching and find it a great way to get out and about. Last weekend we went out for a walk round Ealing and bookmarked a couple of geocaches. One of them was in an unusual place. Yes, that’s my…

This weeks Listography is your top 5 favourite sweets from your childhood. I have a real sweet tooth so it wasn’t hard. In fact, I could have listed my top 50 sweets with tom thumb drops, fizzy cola bottles, jazzies, popping candy and foam bananas. I’m old and I remember when 10p would buy a bagful of sweeties. I dread to think how much Edward will be demanding from me when he gets older. shrimps rice paper sheets bubble gum sweety necklaces flying saucers

I’m enjoying the opportunity to share some of my favourite vintage finds with you all. I’ve had this vintage child’s chair for a while. I picked it up at a flea market on the Isle of Wight ages ago. However I just got it out as Edward is the right height to sit on it. Over the weekend I made a little cushion for him to sit on out of some vintage Superman curtains which I also picked up at a charity shop on the Isle of Wight. I’d been holding onto the fabric for years but thought it would…

Last year we stayed in our favourite hotel when we visited my father-in-law who had fallen from a ladder. Fortunately he was fine but our hotel stay wasn’t so good. Since we’re been together we’ve always stayed in the same hotel whenever we go to Exeter. It’s an old-fashioned but modern boutique hotel in the heart of the city. Pre-Edward we shopped, lunched and stayed up drinking in the hotel bar. It was our obvious choice when we wanted to visit the in-laws. However, post-baby all the quirky features we loved became obstacles. The rickety old lift, the changing floor…

The last few weeks have been busy which is what I need to take my mind off my imminent return to work. Maternity leave is a a wonderful bubble and I’m glad I discovered the world of parent bloggers to help keep me company. A couple of weeks ago I went to work to discuss reducing my hours. It’s taken me a while to post about the results of the meeting because although the outcome was favourable it all left me feeling really unsettled. In a week or two I will be going back to work part-time. My boss doesn’t…

Dear Work, Stop messing with me. We both know I’m entitled to those Bank Holidays I accrued whilst on maternity leave. Sort it out! Yours, Employee (with a contract to prove it) ——————— Dear Body, What’s up with you? Nausea for days on end? Tired all the time. Headaches? Pregnant again? Yours, Wishful thinking ———————– Dear Nursery, Please look after my little one. He’s so precious to me. I know he may be ready for nursery but I’m not ready to let him go.
