Returning to work – or not

The last few weeks have been hectic, emotionally and physically. My little boy started to walk, turned 1, we went to Bruges for a couple of days and I celebrated my birthday. Then last week, just 2 weeks before I was due to return to work I decided I couldn’t. I’ve spent the last couple of months trying to decide what was best for us as a family – to return to work part-time or give up my job to enjoy watching my son grow up. With the deadline looming, nursery place sorted and a new set of work clothes…

    First steps

Edward took his first proper steps last week (17th March), a day before his first birthday. Since then he’s been busy running around and enjoying his new found freedom. This is me in 1978. Looking back through my old photograph album I see I didn’t start walking until I was 17 months. My mum has written ‘first steps at last!’ in my baby book. I still have these shoes as my mum put away lots of my little clothes and shoes. I can’t wait to go and buy Edward his first proper shoes.

    Are you a bum genius?

A while ago I attended a Nappucino to learn more about real nappies. The Borough I live in give vouchers towards the cost of real nappies to encourage people to give them a go. To be honest I have struggled with real nappies but I try to use them whenever I can, especially when we are staying close to home. We were sent two bumGenius V4 from baby kind to try.   The bumGenius v4 is a stay-dry, one-size pocket nappy.   The good points: built in waterproof outer cover and inner lining hook and loop or poppers to fasten…

What do I want to be?

Today I handed in my notice at work. I worked there for so long I can’t remember what I did before. Now I have the perfect opportunity to give some thought to what I want to be when I grow up (having a child doesn’t mean I’ve grown up, does it?). My first memory is of wanting to be  tractor driver. I was a complete tomboy growing up. Never happier than riding my bicycle around the neighbourhood or digging for worms. Tractor drivers, I thought, just sat down and drove up and down fields all day. Easy. After a bit…

    Sea-Band review and giveaway

When I was pregnant I suffered from morning sickness like many pregnant women. I coped by drinking lots of ginger tea and keeping a supply of ginger biscuits in my handbag. I wish I had heard about Sea-Band acupressure wristbands which have been providing nausea relief to millions of people for over 20 years. They work fast and effectively for all types of nausea including travel and morning sickness.   Gwen Stefani was recently spotted wearing Sea-Bands for her morning sickness and other celebrities including Gail Porter, Ulrika Johnson, Fiona Phillips, Kirsty Gallacher have all been seen wearing Sea-Bands whilst…

    Banana muffins for little ones

Edward loves his finger food but unfortunately doesn’t like fruit unless it’s pureed. However I’ve found a way of making sure he gets banana by hiding them in muffins! This is a really simple recipe which takes 30 minutes from preparation to eating. Ingredients: 55g unsalted butter 100g caster sugar 1 egg 2 ripe bananas 1/2tsp natural vanilla extract 125g plain flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/4tsp bicarbonate of soda   Method: Preheat oven to 180Oc and line your cake tin. I use a mini muffin tin for bitesize muffins but you could make these adult sized too. Beat the…
