    Gee up horsey!

Gee up horsey! Do you remember all the words of the lovely nursery rhyme? It’s a great one to teach your children and I know the perfect toy to go with it – the wooden Shetland Rocking Horse from Pintoy – which we were kindly sent by When I Was A Kid to review. This is a lovely wooden toy, very simply decorated and has been designed to grow with your child. My son loves it as it’s the perfect seat for watching tv. Take a look at this short film of Edward sitting on the horse. Can you tell I’m…

    Gingerbread whoopie pie recipe

When I was in Waitrose at the weekend I saw some whoopie pies which reminded me I wanted to try a recipe for gingerbread whoopie pies. Apparently late last year, The New York Times proclaimed whoopie pies to be the new cupcake. The cupcake is dead, long live the whoopie pie? I don’t think so, but I’m always happy to try a new baking project. Gingerbread whoopie pie recipe Ingredients 16oz plain flour 1 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg 6oz unsalted…

    Gingerbread house finds

I found a lovely vintage toy last week which I snapped up as soon as I saw it! It was in the ‘cabinet’ where they place the items of higher value but it was marked a reasonable sum. I love the bright colours of the humming top and it’s illustrated with the characters from the nursery rhyme ‘Hey diddle diddle’. It was made by Chad Valley in England – I am a complete sucker for vintage British toys. Fortunately it’s not too big so will look great on a shelf in the nursery (I just need to persuade my husband…

    Felt autumn leaves

It definitely feels like Autumn don’t you think? Not just the wind and the rain but the nights drawing in. You can’t walk through the park for kicking the fallen leaves. I’ve been dying to take my son for a walk in the park and when we did we made sure we collected tons of pretty leaves, twigs and conkers to show daddy. It made me wonder if it was possible to make something a bit longer lasting to brighten up the house and so we made autumnal felt leaves. I just googled for some templates of suitable leaves, cut…

    Pampers play personality survey

I just love surveys! We recently took part in Pampers play personality survey, by Pampers Village Parenting Panel expert, Dr Maggie Redshaw, and found Edward is a fan of Active Play!   Your Child currently enjoys Active Play Your baby is probably on the move a great deal of the time. He enjoys physical activity and at times you may have trouble keeping up. Early on he will be keen to stand while you support him and will enjoy bouncing games on your lap. For him each new activity is seen as a challenge and crawling, walking, running, climbing or…

I don’t know how she does it

It’s five months since I handed in my notice at work and a couple of months since I received my P45 – nothing says unemployed more that a P45! The good bits I don’t have to commute I can wear what I like I can work on my blog, with the excuse that I’m ‘keeping my hand in’, for when I manage to land the perfect job I can say I’m bored, tired, stressed out and people empathise – a privilege not given to many people in paying jobs! I’m my own boss I have time to renew old friendships…
