    Crafting with Post-it Notes

We love taking inspiration from everyday items and the stormy weather has been perfect for staying indoors and getting crafty. 3M have just launched Post-it Notes Colour Cubes, packs of Post-it Notes in a range of vibrant hues. We were sent a selection of the new Post-it Notes Colour Cubes and challenged to create a piece of Post-it artwork with our favourite colours. Over the last week we’ve been inspired to have some fun indoors and so far we’ve made a photo booth backdrop, origami boxes and a temporary racetrack for cars! We decided to create a London picture as the…

    Playing for Keeps film review

We were sent a copy of Playing for Keeps to review, it’s billed as a romantic comedy with a bit of spice. It’s out to rent and own on DVD and Blu-ray from 20th May (RRP £15.99/£17.99). Gerard Butler (P.S. I Love You, The Bounty Hunter) stars as George Dryer, a down-on-his-luck former football star who is desperate to rebuild a relationship with his ex-wife, Stacie (Jessica Biel: Hitchcock, Total Recall), and his young son, Lewis. In an attempt to grow up and win his family back he starts coaching his son’s football team. But while football is a hands-free…

    Dyeing wool blankets

There’s something lovely about old wool blankets. They feel lovely and are easy to transform into something useful, thank goodness we no longer need them on our beds. I’ve been on the lookout for vintage wool blankets for ages and recently bought a double blanket in perfect condition in a charity shop in Frome for only £3.99. They seem to be getting harder to find but I was really pleased with this one. It still had its original label and was an unusual peach colour. Dyeing wool blankets It was too big to use so I cut it into several…

    Giveaway Day is here!

I think this is the third time I’ve joined up with the Sew, Mama, Sew! giveaway day. I love to craft so I thought this would be a great chance to have a de-stash of my sewing supplies. I’d love to say that moving house has helped me to organise my sewing supplies but it seems there are more important things to unpack. However I have some lovely Sewing + Craft Supplies up for grabs and I am happy to send worldwide. My giveaway bundle includes: 3m of white pom poms which are great for embellishing cushions or doll quilts…

    Keeping the mess in

So far we’ve only discovered one problem with our lovely new house. The previous occupants took all the blinds with them when they moved. They were perfectly entitled to do this but it has left us feeling a little ‘exposed’ to our neighbours, especially in the evenings. Today we ventured to the local high street. We did some shopping (top of the toddlers list was ‘bubbles’) and stopped for a cup of tea in the strangest coffee shop-inside-a-department-store you’ll ever see inside the M25. I was allowed a very quick look around a charity shop which was curtailed by the…

    Preparing for the school run!

Today was our first full day in our new house. The move from North to West London went smoothly with two toddlers in tow. This time round we paid for all our belongings to be packed so Monday night was spent with minimal possessions. The children were brilliant and seemed to enjoy the chaos, hiding in boxes and dragging each other around the empty floors. On Tuesday the removal company arrived early and quickly emptied our house of possessions. We spent most of the morning in the garden and I’m very thankful the weather was warm enough to be outside.…

Day Zero – Month 31 (April)

Today you can find me guest posting over at PinAddicts Challenge about how to display vintage fabrics. If you haven’t yet, I would love it if you took a moment to vote for me in the BiBs Awards as I’ve been shortlisted in the Crafts section! (just click on the badge in the top right corner) On the 19 September 2010 I started a Day Zero list: a place to record goals, discover new challenges, and gain motivation to achieve them. I made a list of 100 things I want to do over 1001 days. The list is due to…

    How I’ve changed since 1983

In 1983 I was 6. Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister, the pound coin replaced the pound note and a pint of milk cost just 21p. Luckily for me I’m a hoarder so it didn’t take me long to root out my old school photos from 1983 as well as my exercise books and diaries. Thank goodness I’ve changed in the last 30 years! I found this hilarious drawing I did when I was 6. Look at my Princess Leia hair! I think that’s a recorder next to my mouth, not sure what else it could be…. I can happily say…

How to make a Lightning McQueen piñata

The toddler turned 3 a couple of week ago and for the last couple of months has been a little obsessed with the films Cars and Cars 2. He still loves his Thomas the Tank Engine but I’d say every day he’ll spend a little more time with his collection of Cars. Thanks to Christmas and birthday presents he now has quite a collection of both. A bit like his Thomas obsession, he also has to wear Cars-themed clothing, eat and drink from Cars plates and cups and has a bedroom covered in posters of cars! Anyway, for his birthday…
