The Big Comic Relief Crafternoon bookazine

I’m so happy The Great British Sewing Bee is back on. I really enjoyed the first episode last night and I’m awe of the contestants sewing skills. Some dress making skills are definitely on my wish list this year! I love to sew so was really excited to hear about the new Mollie Makes bookazine – The Big Comic Relief Crafternoon. This is a collaboration with Comic Relief (obvs!) and the bookazine features over 50 marvellous makes for Red Nose Day  (13th March 2015). I rushed out to buy a copy last week (Sainsbury’s Pinner if anyone is local to…

    Feta, courgette and chorizo tortilla

This week has been quite busy so I’ve been making super quick meals. One of our friends makes the most delicious Spanish tortillas which inspired me to make a feta, courgette and chorizo version. With a little preparation they are quite simple to make but quick and filling when you don’t want to spend ages in the kitchen. Ingredients for feta, courgette and chorizo tortilla: 5 large British Lion eggs Olive oil 3 large potatoes – peeled and thinly sliced 1 onion – peeled and chopped Chorizo (I used some leftover chorizo sausages) Feta 1 Courgette – sliced and cubed…

Sofia the First 12-piece Cube Puzzle

Little Sis was offered a new-to-her type of puzzle to review – the Sofia the First 12-piece Cube Puzzle, featuring six designs of Sofia with animals, fairies and friends. It’s simple and colourful and comes stored in a plastic carry case, making it perfect for travel. The cubes are also easily washable. Have you ever watched an episode of Sofia the First (a computer animated television series on Disney Junior)? It follows  the adventures of Sofia, an 8-year old young girl who becomes a princess overnight after her mother marries the king. Sofia tries her best to adapt to her…

    The Artful Year book review

I was so very lucky to win a copy of The Artful Year :: Celebrating the Seasons & Holidays with Crafts & Recipes by Jean Van’t Hul recently. I’ve read her blog for ages and was so excited to hear about her book. It is loosely based on her Artful Year seasonal crafts eBooks but expanded with some new activities and a fifth section on arts and crafts for the whole year, or those that can be adapted to the season or holiday at hand. There are 175 crafts and activities with clear, step-by-step directions. There’s also  a long appendix of…

Sponsored Video: Heinz – Amoyzing Noodles

We’ve had a lot of fun with the theme of Chinese New Year over the last few weeks. We love exploring other cultures and I find there’s usually a learning opportunity for the whole family! This year Chinese New Year falls on Thursday 19th of February and we’ve made some really fun crafts, such as our Chinese lantern sun catcher and Chinese New Year Year of the Sheep sun catcher. This year I’d love to try some Chinese cooking. My family love trying new foods so I think it could be fun for everyone, I just don’t know where to…

    Monday happy things

Monday again, where did the weekend go? – I’ve been having a huge de-clutter and tidy which is ongoing and never ending. During the week I finished tidying our bedroom. You can finally see the floor and it feels like a lovely place to fall asleep – the Tempur mattress probably helps 🙂 Over the weekend I managed to read 4 years’ worth of Mollie Makes magazine. I took out any projects I want to make and have stored all the free cover gifts in a box – I think I’ve only ever made one! This has given me a…

How to make Baymax from Kinder Egg shells

We are so excited about Big Hero 6. As a family we love to watch films and we loved Big Hero 6 on the big screen. Big Hero 6 is the story of Hiro and Baymax, set in the fictional city of Sanfransokyo (a mashup of San Francisco and Tokyo). The film is inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. The film tells the story of a young robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada, Baymax (a personal healthcare robot) and a group of friends from nerd school who form a superhero team to combat a masked villain. …

    Monthly Makes – January

There’s something about January that makes me want to stay in and hibernate with some sewing. It’s been so cold that I’ve been quite happy to spend my evenings working on my Union flag quilt – a gift for my 3 year old – hopefully before she leaves home. I’ve seen real progress with it this month and it’s grown quite a lot. I’ve also incorporated some fabrics from her old baby clothes so it’s turning into a real heirloom piece which I hope she will treasure. You can’t really see the scale of it from a photograph but each…

    How to make cardboard cookies

Last year we bought my daughter a play kitchen. It’s one of her favourite toys and has led to some really fun play times. She prepares her play food, makes us meals, organises tea parties for her dolls and sets up shop too. This was a really great purchase! Today it’s raining (again!) so I thought it would be fun to make our own food. We’ve made felt food before but I wanted to try and use some products from our recycling box so we made cardboard cookies. Materials for cardboard cookies: recycled cardboard, brown if possible cookie cutters white…
