    Monday happy things

It’s beautifully sunny here today, fingers crossed it lasts. Time for my weekly Monday happy things post: My son went back to school after the school holidays. We had an amazing few weeks but he was happy to see his friends and his new teachers. My 3 year old and I have been a little subdued without him. Over the summer I took part in a Summer Postcard Club organised by Marceline at Asking for Trouble. I sent 5 postcards and received 5 postcards, and it was lovely to receive some happy mail. The sun shone on Sunday for what…

What I’m reading: Write Back Soon! Adventures in Letter Writing

I seem to spend a lot of time using a keyboard and not so much time picking up an old fashioned pen and paper these days. I often slip in a hand written note with a swap package but that’s about it. Which is why I was interested in Write Back Soon! Adventures in Letter Writing by Karen Benke. Connect to your friends through handwritten notes, cards, letters, and postcards—an interactive workbook that encourages creative interactions between friends through the written word, complete with cross-outs, smudges, and parenthetical asides. Put down that smartphone and pick up a pen! Texting and…

Fireman Sam Heroes of the Storm Premiere

Last week we were lucky to receive an exclusive invitation to Hamleys toy shop on Regent’s Street to celebrate the launch of the new Fireman Sam film Heroes of the Storm. We were able to meet Fireman Sam, who arrived at Hamleys on Jupiter, as well as watch a preview of the new Fireman Sam DVD. Fireman Sam Heroes of the Storm The Pontypandy Fire Station is closed to make way for a new modern station with touch screens and innovative gadgets. The crew work from a mobile fire station and are kept very busy. Mountain climber Moose asks Tom…

August Craft Drops subscription box unboxing

You know by now that I love subscription boxes. There are a few crafty subscription boxes around and I was very happy to try the August Craft Drops subscription box. Each box is everything you need to make a complete crafty project (and loads of lovely extras to experiment with too). The theme of each box is kept a surprise so I didn’t know what the contents would be until it arrived through my letter box. The Craft Drops subscription box came all wrapped up, it fitted through my letter box and as well as the craft supplies contained two…

    Explorer Scavenger Hunt

Today I’m excited to be taking part in the A-Z of Pretend Play Activities Blog Hop hosted by Nicola at Crafty Kids at Home! We chose the letter E for Explorers as my children love to explore. Over the school holidays we explored lots of places from the beach, canals to country houses but our favourite was our overnight stay at Whipsnade Zoo. We took part in a treasure hunt exploring the zoo, helped feed some of the animals and drove around some of the enclosures. The children have talked about our trip to the zoo quite a lot so I…

    Rose Petal Cottage from DreamTown

The weather in London has been quite poor for the last few weeks of the school holidays. Instead of playing outside we have spent more time indoors than we would have liked. My lucky children have been the latest residents of DreamTown as the proud owners of Rose Petal Cottage. This traditional playhouse has been designed to inspire the excitement and imagination of role play games. Rose Petal Cottage from DreamTown is a beautiful indoor playhouse, built to last for years and inspire children to explore the freedom and excitement of imaginative role play. It is packed with interactive features,…

Win a copy of Bake in Black

Now my son is safely back at school and enjoying the challenges of Year 1 I’ve had a little more time to myself to indulge in my passion of baking. I’ve been enjoying reading the recipe book Bake in Black: music inspired baking. This lovingly created cook book is a music –themed collection of more than 60 sweet indulgences. Bake in Black started life as a blog from a kitchen in East London and was written by a musician and food journalist. They took a rock or heavy metal song or an album title which then inspired them to create…

    DIY Miffy stool

A while ago I bought a cute vintage wooden 3 legged stool. I painted it with some Annie Sloan paint, didn’t like it and packed it away on the loft. My 3 year old is starting a new nursery later this month so we’re trying to make a fuss of her and give her bedroom an inexpensive makeover. DIY Miffy stool Guess what I made my un-loved vintage 3 legged stool into? A fantastically cool Miffy stool and my daughter loves it. At 3 years old her bedroom is rocking the pink look so I have made a subtle stool in…

Okido magazine and Messy Goes to Okido on CBeebies

I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to discover Okido magazine but I recently came across an issue and we’re all hooked. It is so different from the magazines the children pester me from whilst we food shopping, and in a really good way. Each issue is themed and helps your child learn through the stories, activities and games which stimulate creativity and inspires scientific interest. The lovable monster called Messy is to feature in his own comedy adventure, science-educational show called ‘Messy goes to Okido’. The BBC has acquired the animation series, the first episode will air…
