    What I made in May 2024

    I can tell that the weather is better and the days are longer as I have been spending more time in the garden and less indoors with my sewing. However there was time for some crafting. What I made in May 2024 First of all I completed the Liberty Star I started last month. It’s such a simple design but really pretty. I didn’t want to make it into a cushion so I’ve left it as a block for now. I would love to stitch it to a top or the back of my denim jacket. I stitched the Floral…

    {book review} RHS Collage the Botanical

    The RHS Chelsea Flower Show, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), is one of the most renowned and prestigious gardening events in the world. As well as seeing world-class gardens displays, seek expert advice and workshops, as well as the immersive cultural experience of attending RHS Chelsea, which we were able to do for the first time this year. We are both keen gardeners, and were happy to receive a copy of RHS Collage the Botanical which is published this week. RHS Collage the Botanical World 1,000+ Fantastic & Floral Images to Cut Out & Collage A collage is…

    Five Happy Things {Week 502}

    Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while over the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family. Five Happy Things {Week 502} Last week my son was away on a school trip to the Costa Brava in Spain. He tried all sorts of different water sports including kayaking, a catamaran, windsurfing and snorkelling.  He had a great time and brought home a huge pile of washing for…

    A trip to RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024

    Yesterday we booked tickets to attend RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024. It’s a place we’ve wanted to visit for years and this was the year. We booked tickets for Thursday and were really thankful we had as day was warm and sunny (not like the days before). We dropped the youngest at school before heading into London for our day out. A trip to RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024 The RHS, or Royal Horticultural Society is the UK’s leading gardening charity. They aim to enrich everyone’s life through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place. We…

    {Giveaway} The Housekeepers by Alex Hay

    Last year I shared a review of The Housekeepers by Alex Hay. This was one of my favourite reads of 2023. The story has stuck in my mind thanks to the characters and great story line which kept me guessing right up until the end of the book. Here’s a little about the book: UPSTAIRS, MADAM IS PLANNING THE PARTY OF THE SEASON. DOWNSTAIRS, THE SERVANTS ARE PLOTTING THE HEIST OF THE CENTURY. When Mrs King, housekeeper to the most illustrious home in Mayfair, is suddenly dismissed after years of loyal service, she knows just who to recruit to help…

    Five Happy Things {Week 501}

    Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while over the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family. Five Happy Things {Week 501} I started the week by binge watching Season 3 of Bridgerton. I couldn’t help it even though I had read the books and knew what was going to happen. Everyone needs a little escapism now and then. It was pretty good, just a shame…

    Can You Travel as a Foster Carer in the UK?

    When you make the life-changing decision to become a foster carer and welcome a child into your home, one of the first questions you may ask is ‘Can I still travel?’. The answer is yes, with the proper planning and preparation, foster carers can still enjoy holidays and trips away. As a foster carer, your first responsibility is always the child you are caring for. While travel is possible, every trip away from home requires extra consideration and communication to ensure the child’s needs are met. Planning Ahead The foster care agency you work with when fostering in Middlesbrough will…

    {Exploring} Hidcote Manor Garden

    The Easter holidays already seem long gone. The last few weeks have flown by and it’s lovely to be busy with plenty of things to do. However I wanted to write a little about our visit to Hidcote Manor Garden in Gloucestershire. This was a stop off on the long journey home from a few days in Ironbridge. We needed somewhere to stop and enjoy our picnic and this seemed a good place to stop, especially as we could use our lifetime National Trust cards to get in. {Exploring} Hidcote Manor Garden Hidcote is an Arts and Crafts-inspired garden with…
