Noddy inspired gingerbread biscuits

Created by Enid Blyton in 1949, Noddy is one of the most beloved children’s characters, having entertained families for generations with stories set in the colourful world of Toyland. Have you seen that Noddy has been given a bit of a makeover by DreamWorks? Yep, Noddy the Toyland Detective reimagines him in the role of investigator; exploring mysteries and searching for clues in Toyland while encouraging children to explore and make discoveries in their own world.

I love a craft inspired by a book or children’s character so I couldn’t resist turning Noddy into some delicious gingerbread treats for my children. Today I’m sharing my Noddy inspired gingerbread biscuits (and hoping to bag myself a prize too).

Noddy inspired gingerbread biscuits

I used my favourite gingerbread biscuit recipe which you can find here. This never fails to make the most delicious biscuits. I made a template of Noddy’s face on card which I then cut out.

I rolled the dough out and cut round my template with a sharp knife to make 4 large Noddy shaped biscuits.

I added currants for eyes then baked them in the oven.

When they had turned a lovely golden brown I took them out and left them to cool. Whilst I waited I rolled out the ready made blue icing for Noddy’s hat. I rolled this out and placed my gingerbread biscuits on top, roughly cutting round them with a knife. I pressed them onto each biscuit, and used the back of the knife to mark the lines of his cap.

Then I set up the Noddy biscuits with a couple of white and dark chocolate icing pens. I thought this made a fun invitation to play – one which never fails to bring a smile to my children’s faces! They added their own eyes, noses and mouths with the icing pens, then just went, well ….. a little crazy – I blame the sugar. However, they were happy enough to eat their Noddy biscuits (despite what they looked like!).

  2. They look brilliant and very yum! I loved Noddy when I was younger and my daughter did when she was little too. I love that he’s still going and getting a remake too.
