Ferrari exhibition at the Design Museum

Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things

Posted on February 26, 2018 by jenny

I love starting off each week by writing my Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things blog post. It’s a great chance to reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week.

Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things

The first part of the week was pretty quiet. We finished watching the first season of Altered Carbon on Netflix which we both really enjoyed. I have to admit the last few episodes got stranger and stranger but overall I really enjoyed it. I finished reading The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage, completed Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and watched Three Billboards out of Ebbing, Missouri. I always feel a little unsettled when I finish books and tv shows I’ve been enjoying so I can’t wait to find my next binge-worthy series on Netflix. I’ve already started reading The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay which is pretty good.

It was my husbands birthday so he took a day off work and we went to see the Ferrari exhibition at the Design Museum, London. I don’t often get to spend time with him without the children around so we had a lovely day out. I’ll have to write a separate post about the Design Museum as they have a free permanent exhibition which is great for kids.

On Saturday my husband treated me to tickets to watch ENO’s Iolanthe by Gilbert & Sullivan at the London Coliseum.

Iolanthe is a brilliantly funny, satirical fantasy, revealing a typically Gilbert & Sullivan topsy-turvy worldview. The plot is funny – Phyllis and Strephon wish to marry, but as Phyllis is a ward of court she requires the Lord Chancellor’s permission. The Lord Chancellor, however, wants her for himself. When you throw the fact that Strephon is half-fairy and his mother looks younger than Phyllis you get a huge mix up and chaos ensues. Can the Fairy Queen call Parliament to order?

I was blown away by the costumes and set. I knew all the music off by heart and it was a wonderful performance. The kids loved it too!

The day after our trip to London and we found ourselves doing something completely different. Both the children are member of their local Beaver Scout group and Sunday morning was spent on a 2 hour hike in the woods with them. Fortunately the weather was wonderful which made it easier.

Last night I went on a dinner date with my 7 year old whilst my daughter went to a birthday party. We went for a walk and hid some of his latest painted rocks before dinner. He was really excited to find two painted rocks which he took and replaced with two he had made at home. I don’t often get to spent time with the children on their own but it was nice to be with him and we had fun planning his birthday party.

Hope you all have a great week!

Oh the costumes for Iolanthe look amazing! You were really lucky with the weather for your big hike too, it’s cold at the moment but at least it stayed dry for you 🙂

I was blown away by the opera, and so thankful the children behaved themselves and enjoyed it too.

Oh man, the Ferrari exhibition at the Design Museum sounds great. My other half would love that so much, and yep, definitely nice to have some “couple” time without the kids.

It makes such a difference when you can actually enjoy an exhibition without having to rush through it to the cafe or toilet!
