I love to start the week by writing Five Happy Things. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I always enjoy writing.
Five Happy Things {Week 237}
We spent last week in our favourite little fisherman’s cottage in Teignmouth. The cottage is on the back beach which was perfect. We’ll gloss over the gale force winds at the start of the week. By the time we left the temperature had soared as the winds dropped. The children played outside on the beach whenever they could which resulted in lots of changes of clothes. I even had to go out and buy shorts for my daughter as I hadn’t packed any, and aqua shoes for my son as he kept getting his trainers wet!
We had some great days out in Babbacombe and Shaldon, and also managed to use our National Trust membership to visit Bradley House and Compton Castle. There were loads of special events going on for Easter which kept the children busy. Sometimes it can be hard to find new things to do but we’re never short of ideas in Devon!
It feels like we’ve lived on the beach for the last week. Every day the kids found ‘treasure’ that they wanted to keep. I tried to stick to sea glass and pottery but a few pieces of driftwood and shells were packed away too. I’m hoping to find some inspiration on Pinterest of things to do with all the treasures when we get home. We managed to squeeze in rock pooling and crabbing. We even picked up a Tide Timetable so we could find the best times to go out! The kids loved picking up the crabs in their nets and it didn’t take long until they had both filled a bucket.
We ate out an awful lot. Teignmouth has some lovely places to eat, including our favourite Finley Browns and we also love The Pharmacy in Newton Abbott. My daughter was always excited if chocolate brownie was on the menu!
I took two sewing projects with me to keep my hands busy. My husband bought me the an embroidery hoop kit from Cotton Clara. The design by Rebecca Strickson was inspired by the Suffragette banners of the past and carries a strong message for women and girls today. I also packed my Shipping Forecast Quilt which was perfect for stitching by the sea.
I remember going to Babbacombe model village as a child! It looks like Teignmouth is a lovely seaside village. I would love to go there one day
