My children take a jar filled with toys or sweets into school every Christmas for their Christmas Fair contribution. The whole school does this and in return the kids get to wear their own clothes to school. The filled jars are then sold at the Fair and raise money for school. It’s a great way to raise funds for school and my children have always enjoyed filling and decorating their jars.
Our “Jolly Jars” are traditionally filled with sweets (usually leftover from Halloween!) but a filled jar also makes a great handmade gift at Christmas. It’s something that’s really easy for kids to make and give. Today I’m sharing our kid made filled jars as part of the Kid Made Gifts blog hop, organised by Teach Me Mommy.
Kid made gifts in a jar
This is a lovely craft for kids. You need to provide empty glass jars, scrubbed with the labels removed. Then comes the fun part, asking your child to go on a scavenger hunt, searching for items to fill the jar.
My children both made filled jars for each other. The 7 year old is a huge fan of Minecraft so we looked for all kinds of Minecraft toys to fill the jar with. You can buy small toys, stickers, key-rings, sweets and blind bags are perfect for squeezing in a jar.
My daughter placed as many things as she could in the jar.
We finished it off with some Minecraft ribbon around the middle of the jar and used a hot glue gun to glue a Minecraft block to the top of the jar (this helped to cover up a label we couldn’t remove).
I can’t wait to see what my 7 year old thinks of this when he opens it on Christmas Day. It’s so simple to make but you can personalise it with the contents. You can even make a more grown up version with craft supplies, handmade biscuits or a bath scrub.
