Make new from old with Reloved magazine

The summer issue of Reloved magazine has just been published and I’m pleased to say it is packed full of projects like the last issue I told you about a couple of weeks ago. The magazine features 30 hands-on craft projects from some of my favourite people, such as Kirstie Allsop (who I was delighted to meet at BritMums Live this year!) Pearl Lowe and Annie Sloan.

The tag line of the magazine is ‘the creative guide to upcycling’ and this issue has a focus on putting the chic into your shabby furniture, home decor and clothes.

I’m not sure if I’m easy to please (my husband would probably say I’m not) but for me this issue is packed with projects I really want to do. I’m obviously very on trend as one of the projects is to upcycle a wooden pallet into a window box and we actually spent a couple of hours making an old pallet into a planter this weekend! More of that later this week. I also made a pincushion from a vintage egg cup which is another simple craft featured in the magazine.

There’s a fab article on a company called Wightsails who upcycle sail cloths into bags, windbreaks, deckchairs, shopping trolleys, and beach furniture on the Isle of Wight, which is where I’m from.

Anyway, I would love to make a colourful summer tent for the children; try my hand at stencilling on an old cabinet to give it a new look; make a decoration using my initial and my button stash for a colourful new piece of art and recycle tin cans into simple lanterns for these beautiful long summer evenings. A bonus of the projects is that they have been taken from recent craft books, meaning it’s a great way to discover new books to add to your wishlist!
