We try to recycle as much as we can so always have a full recycling bin. It seems a shame to put it out for the binmen to collect but I’ve never really thought if we could use the material for anything. However with a little bit of inspiration boxes can be turned into cars or dollshouses, played with, and put back in the recycling. How? With the aid of an ingenious little kit from makedo.
makedo is a reuseable connector system for creating amazing objects and spaces from recycled materials. We were sent a car kit which contained a safe-saw, re-clips and lock-hinges. Unfortunately it contained instructions and stickers for a dollshouse so instead of building a racing car for our very own Jenson Button we made a house for our In The Night Garden figures!
Using a couple of boxes it was easy to assemble the rooms of the house, using the safe-saw to make small holes to put the re-clips through, and a couple of lock-hinges to attach the roof. The kit included sheets of stickers so we decorated the rooms too. It’s such a simple idea and the best thing is when you’ve finished playing you can re-use the clips for other projects and put the materials back in the recycling!
Edward enjoyed playing with his little house (which made me wonder why I don’t try simple activities with him more often!). For more information, ideas and kits take a look at the makedo website.
