Macramé Jewellery {book review}

I love to share the books I’ve been reading. I’ve read some great fiction which I’ve been sharing but today I have a gorgeous craft book to share. I recently mentioned I had tried macramé for the first time.

What is macramé?

Macramé is a form of textile produced using knotting techniques. It’s been around for a long time and uses string or macramé cord. It’s done by hand which makes it a great, mindful craft.

Macramé Jewellery {book review}

I really enjoyed trying macramé recently. It’s fun to try something new and I liked the idea that you can create beautiful items to wear or for the home with some simple knots. You don’t need many materials for macramé and the knots are quite straightforward to master. Search Press recently sent me a copy of Macramé Jewellery: 20 stylish modern projects using simple knots by Isabella Strambio which was published on 21st December 2022.

Just as macramé homeware has been given a contemporary, stylish makeover in recent years, Isabella Strambio does the same with jewellery. Ideal for beginners, this book contains 20 contemporary jewellery and accessory projects, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets and headbands.

Isabella is committed to working with sustainable materials, to ensure that these items can make you feel good, as well as look good. She gives advice on sizing and resizing the pieces to suit, and attaching jewellery findings, fastenings, beads and so on.

As well as providing 20 wonderful designs, the book also covers the knots that are needed, making it ideal for beginners or people who are keen to give the craft a try and create some truly unique, truly sustainable jewellery pieces.

Chapters include Tools, Materials, Knots, Patterns and Macramé tips. The projects include ear-rings, bracelets, necklaces and other accessories such as a headband, keyring, belt and camera strap.

So far I’ve tried the Black Tassel Necklace tutorial, and made it with some white and yellow string. The instructions were easy to follow and I’m looking forward to making some more of the items for myself and to give as gifts.

Macramé Jewellery by Isabella Strambio is available from Search Press and all good independent bookshops.
