7 Key Factors to Consider When Selecting Your Next Beach Towel

Posted on November 2, 2023 by jenny

When you’re gearing up for a perfect beach day with the kids, what’s the one item you can’t forget? That’s right – it’s your trusty beach towel! You choose it, but have you ever given it much thought? Yes, there is more to choosing a beach towel than just looking at how pretty it is.

From the material to the size and even the design, many factors can make one towel a better fit for you than another.

So, before you grab the first towel you see and head for the surf, let’s dive into the seven key aspects to consider when selecting your next beach towel. Trust us, your beach day experience might just get a whole lot better!

1. Size Matters

Size does matter, especially when it comes to beach towels. You want something that comfortably fits you and your belongings without feeling cramped or limited in space.

If you’re taller or prefer more space, get a towel at least 35×70 inches. Most people prefer 30×60 inches.

However, if you’re looking for a more compact and portable option, consider a microfibre towel that can fold up to the size of a small book.

2. Material Makes a Difference

The material of your beach towel can affect its durability and absorbency. And even how soft it feels against your skin. Cotton is the most common material for beach towels because it is soft and dries quickly.

But here are some other options if you want something lighter and that dries faster:

  • Microfibre: super absorbent and dries quickly, but can feel less plush compared to cotton.
  • Bamboo: eco-friendly, antimicrobial, and softer than cotton, but may take longer to dry.
  • Turkish cotton: combines the best of both worlds, offering quick drying and high absorbency while still feeling soft.

3. Absorbency is Key

Absorbency should be a high priority because drying off after a swim is one of the important functions of a beach towel. Although they are thinner than cotton towels, microfibre towels can still be quite absorbent. Cotton towels are recognised for their fast absorption of water.

Additionally, remember that as your towel wears out over time from repeated usage and washing, it will become more absorbent.

4. Sand Resistant is a Must

What’s worse than getting sand all over your towel and returning it to your car? Not much, right? This is why having a beach towel that resists sand may just improve your life.

The natural resistance of materials like microfibre or quick-drying towels to sand makes them ideal for use at the beach. Some towels also have sand-repelling coatings that make it easy to shake off pesky grains.

When searching for sand-resistant towels, look for ones with a tight weave or smooth surface that won’t trap sand.

5. Design and Style

Now, let’s talk about the fun stuff: design and style! After all, your beach towel reflects your personality and can add some flair to your beach day.

From bold patterns to cute characters, you can find a towel that suits your style and makes you stand out on the sand. You can personalise your towel with embroidery or monograms for a special touch.

For example, choose a beach towel with aquatic themes or sea creatures if you love the ocean. Or, if you enjoy a minimalist approach, go to Bed bath N’ Table for a neutral colour or simple stripes.

6. Durability for Long-Term Use

Your beach towel takes a beating from the sun, saltwater, and sand. So, you want one that can withstand frequent use and still look good.

Cotton towels are more durable than microfibre ones because they are thicker and have stronger fibres. Additionally, Turkish cotton is known for its long-lasting durability.

7. Price vs. Quality

Let’s finally address pricing! Everyone wants to save money, yet beach towels often depend on pricing.

While buying less expensive towels might seem smart, they are frequently less absorbent, sturdy, and not sand-resistant. Additionally, they can require more frequent replacement.

Investing in a higher-quality towel might cost you more upfront. Still, it will save you money in the long run by lasting longer and providing better functioning.

Final Thoughts

And there you have it. We just surfed through the seven crucial factors to consider when choosing your next beach towel.

Remember, it’s not just about the cool designs or colours; it’s about finding the right size, the perfect material, good absorbency, sand resistance, your style, durability, and finding the right balance between price and quality.

Next time you’re on the hunt for that perfect beach towel, remember these points. This way, you’re sure to end up with a towel that doesn’t just look good but also makes your beach trips a breeze.
