Inexpensive holiday fun

I can’t believe the summer holidays are nearly over. We’re going away visiting family next week so I thought I should pull out all the stops to ensure we’ve had lots of inexpensive fun this week.

We’ve been dodging the weather and making sure we spend as much time outdoors as we can. I bought the toddler a box of chunky chalks and he’s been having great fun drawing on the patio. Don’t forget there are lots more ideas for inexpensive play from Play England on Morrisons website.

Yesterday we made our own modelling putty for the first time. I bought the  ingredients from Morrisons (M Savers flour was only 52p and table salt 31p) and used a couple of things in the cupboard. It took  minutes and made a very generous dollop. The toddler enjoyed rolling it out, stamping shapes in it and pretended to make cakes. We’ll definitely be making this again! I’m pretty sure you can keep it for a couple of days too if stored in an airtight container.

I found the recipe on Morrions S Savers website:

250g plain flour
50g salt
140ml water
1 – 2 tablespoons of cooking oil

You can also add a few drops of food colouring or flavouring if you want to give it some smell.

Our final indoor fun was baking which we do as often as we can. I bought a pack of Morrisons vanilla flavour cupcake mix for a bargain 85p and we spent the afternoon baking and decorating cupcakes. A lovely way to end the week!
