How to carve your own stamps

Today I finally got the chance to try something I’ve been wanting to do for ages – carve my own stamps. I bought a kit which contained a couple of sheets of rubber, a carving tool with a gouge tip and some ink pads. There were no instructions which meant I had to make it up as I went along, but it all turned out ok in the end.

I cut the rubber sheet into 4 pieces and drew out my design on one of the pieces. Then I started to gouge out the rubber outside of the design. The rubber was made up of three layers, the two outside layers were thin to show you exactly how far down you needed to cut.

I made a few different stamps of a mitten, gingerbread man and Christmas tree as I thought this would be a great way to make my own wrapping paper. When I had finished carving my stamps I covered them in silver ink and stamped them over plain brown wrapping paper and gift tags.

I was excited to be wrapping some extra special gifts for the Honeypot’s Children’s charity which is the only charity in the UK who provide consistent respite support for young carers, who are aged between 5 and 12. This Christmas Sellotape is donating festive gifts for vulnerable children and young carers at the Honeypot Children’s Charity and sharing the magic of giving. They have updated the packaging of its Original Golden Roll to include information about its support of the charity.

When my homemade wrapping paper was dry, I used a roll of Sellotape to wrap a very special gift which will be sent to Honeypot’s Children’s charity.

The finished parcel looks lovely and I really hope the recipient enjoys opening their present.
