I love washi tape. If you haven’t heard of it before it’s a style of paper that was first made in Japan. Now it’s used to describe pretty sticky tape. It has a multitude of uses from wrapping gifts, sealing envelopes and sticking up my favourite recipes on my kitchen cupboards!
Until recently I’ve been using some really pretty washi tape which I picked up at Cath Kidston. However it was ridiculously expensive so I made my own.
You will need: double-sided sticky tape, scissors, fabric, an old cotton reel.
Simply roll the tape along your fabric and cut the fabric using a rotary cutter or scissors. Then roll your tape round a vintage spool to keep it sticky! So simple.
If, like me, you hoard fabric you can literally cut your cloth according to your needs – using Christmas fabric to decorate plain brown paper for Christmas, how about yellow for your Easter eggs or traditional blue or pink for birthday cards.

I have just inherited some old cotton reels – I’m off to buy some double sided tape!!
It’s a really great idea if you have the time! I’m really miffed that I can buy it cheaper in the States, have it shipped over, pay customs, admin and fees….still paying less for it that we have to pay for it here. Ridiculous.
