Hiding from the rain at the Knitting & Stitching Show

Posted on October 14, 2018 by jenny

I have been looking forward to today for weeks as I had planned to visit the Knitting & Stitching Show with a friend. We had a busy day out yesterday but I was just about ready to go when she arrived to pick me up. I love the Knitting & Stitching Show and try to go every year (see links to previous years below). Now I am back at work I was looking forward to spending some hard earned cash!

Hiding from the rain at the Knitting & Stitching Show

I woke up to rain and it hasn’t really stopped all day. So the Knitting & Stitching Show at Ally Pally was the perfect place to spend the day. We bought our tickets and headed into the venue. It’s a brilliant day out with the Creative Living Theatre, workshops, talks, hundreds of exhibitors and textile galleries.

As we got to Ally Pally as the Show opened we headed to the main hall to browse the exhibitors. I was planning to visit some of my favourite designers but unfortunately some of them weren’t there! I really wanted to stock up on some new Liberty fabric to play around with so had to find some new suppliers like Sewbox. I also bought a really fun fabric Hansel and Gretel panel (mainly for the gingerbread house!) designed by Sarah Young.

There was lots of gorgeous fabrics to look at but thus year I branched out a little. I picked up a Gingerbread House ear-rings kit from Spellbound Bead Co. I thought you could buy them ready made but they were kits and my friend encouraged me to try making them for myself. I’m not sure I have the patience for bead craft but it’s good to try new things.

I couldn’t resist a pumpkin felting kit from Woollie and Feltie Kits. They had such a gorgeous, eye-catching display that I couldn’t help myself from giving it a go.

This year I also tried marble art. I’ve seen it in magazines but there was a stand showing how to use special inks to marble just about everything. You could pay to marble a tile and I couldn’t resist giving it a go. The end result was so beautiful that I was really tempted to buy myself a kit.

My final purchase was wooden blanks from Artcuts. Remember I attended an Artcuts workshop a few years ago at The Handmade Fair? I don’t need a new hobby but I thought it would be fun to make some personalised Christmas decorations.

Every year I blog about my purchases to shame me into making them. Here are my previous posts:

This looks so good! I really want to get into knitting or cross stitch at some point.

Oh wow what a fun day! I love the crocheted animals. I do really wish I could knit/sew but I have terrible arthritis in my hands 🙁 My sister crochets cute Xmas decorations though!
