Handbags and Gladrags

Today my thoughts have turned firmly towards the school run. Since I’ve never done the school run before I’m not really sure what to expect but on the couple of occasions I’ve visited the school the fashions have been quite wide-ranging. There are the women who are so immaculate you wonder if they actually care for their children; the slummy mummies who look like they’ve just rolled out of bed; the sporty mums who look like they’re going straight on a run after they’ve dropped their children off and then there are the mum’s who look like me, pretty nondescript.

As I may well be meeting the same mums at the school gates for the next 8 years I want to look my best for my the toddlers’ first day of term. I’ve decided that as I will soon have a child of school age I must dress accordingly. I’m sure I heard somewhere that people  form their first impressions within the first three seconds of meeting you. So I want to be looking my best, effortlessly cool and calm (rather than the stressed and shouty variety of mum I really am).

In preparation I’ve had a good sort out of my wardrobe which has left it half empty. I had a good look for suitable clothes at the shops today. Although my eyes are always drawn to the vast display of handbags, and you know there’s always a need for a new one, instead I walked firmly past to the clothes. Fortunately for me there was a sale on and I picked up some lovely new outfits.

I’ve recently had my hair cut, my new wardrobe is taking shape nicely. Next up is the toddler who needs his first school uniform. I can’t wait to take him shopping for that, then spend the evening sewing on name labels! I would love to hear your thoughts on dressing for the school run.

Don’t say that! I’m quite looking forward to them 🙂
