Halloween painted rock ideas

Halloween painted rock ideas

Posted on September 10, 2018July 4, 2025 by jenny

I know we’ve only just survived the first week back at school but I’m beginning to get excited about Halloween at the end of next month. My kids love Halloween and whilst we might not go all out for horror and zombies, we can’t result stocking up on the Halloween candy and go Trick or Treating. Today I’m joining in with a Halloween blog hop with our Halloween painted rocks.

We love decorating and hiding painted rocks. We hid a lot of our painted rocks stash over the summer, hiding them locally near where we live and also taking a few to hide when we went on holiday in the UK and abroad. It was definitely time to start decorating more so over the weekend we came up with some ideas for Halloween painted rocks.

We already had a stash of rocks which we washed and left to dry in the sun. When they were dry we painted three of them white and one black. It’s so much easier to decorate a rock which has already been painted – top tip! I recently bought some new Posca pens with really fine tips. Since we started using them our painted rocks have been so much better, the designs a lot crisper and easier to see.

The kids decided what they wanted to make and we agreed on a spider, a gruesome eyeball, Jack Skellington and a candy corn. I love crafting with the kids and we spent a lovely afternoon decorating our Halloween painted rocks.

My 8 year old designed the Jack Skellington painted rock. He loves the book A Nightmare before Christmas and I can’t wait to get it out and re-read it with him soon.

I helped my 6 year old design a spiders web. We’re currently reading James and the Giant Peach and this made us think of Miss Spider and all the webs she spun.

Our gruesome eyeball painted rock was a bit of a team effort. Earlier this year we made a dinosaur eye painted rock but this was even more fun, especially the bright red eye vessels!

Before we knew it we had four new Halloween themed painted rocks to varnish and hide. We’ll be adding the # of our local Facebook group on the back too.
