Gingerbread house finds

Posted on September 4, 2011June 7, 2016 by jenny

I’m a bit of a craft addict and if I didn’t have my hobbies sometimes I think I would go crazy. I love having several projects on the go and at the moment I am planning some appliqued tshirts for Edward, a cot cover/crawling blanket for the Second Baby as well as some fun autumn and Christmas crafts.

Unfortunately we don’t have much space for my craft supplies so they are dotted around the gingerbread house until we move somewhere bigger next year. As well as my lovely Cath Kidston sewing  basket and shelves of sewing books I have jars of pretty buttons, boxes of ribbons, threads and notions. I can’t resist the odd vintage find and I’ve picked up some great supplies during my recent thrifting trips.

Some of my favourite items are wooden spools which look great on the mantelpiece. I love the packaging on the box of Sylko threads and the lettering on the bakelite pin box. The vintage sewing box is cute although definitely not big enough for my needs. Fortunately these little finds are destined for displaying only, and they hardly take up any room so I didn’t have to ‘declare’ them to my husband!

Oh I can relate to this completely as I hoard all things crafty. My husbands nan sadly passed away a month ago and my MIL has just given me hubbys nans old cantilever sewing box crammed full of vintage gems.
I had a lovely time this afternoon looking through it with my 3 yr old daughter ( who’s got the first signs of chickenpox – ah!) Hundreds of vintage buttons, ribbons and Skylo cotton reels – the origional wooden ones too ! Some of the buttons are still attached to the cardboard with the price on there of 5p !

My mum had one of those cantilevered sewing boxes! Lots of fond memories of looking through it and picking up pins with her magnet 🙂

I’m doing Christmas stuff too – as you can probably tell from Pinterest! When do you think it becomes acceptable to blog about Christmas?? I guess I have to keep a few posts until at least December…

Love the suitcase with the lovely Orla K print. Is that paper or fabric inside?

I lined the case with Orla Kiely wrapping paper. I love the way it looks 🙂

I’ve bought a lot and made a lot of Christmas presents too! It feels so autumnal at the moment, I’m itching to blog about it all …

This is a sweet find. I love the little wooden spools. For me there is something so endearing about sewing supplies.
