I love making gifts to give at Christmas. Picking up something in the shops or adding a product to my online shopping basket is too easy. Homemade gifts require thought and time and are usually quite fun to make. I encourage my children to plan and make their own gifts too.
My 6 year old son is already pretty good at making things, his speciality is sewing, so this craft is one I helped my 4 year old to make. We made a delicious gingerbread body scrub – it’s relatively cheap to make and perfect for little hands.
Ingredients to make DIY gingerbread body scrub
500g brown sugar
140ml olive oil
2 tbsp gingerbread mix
A jar or container
How to make DIY gingerbread body scrub
Mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl. I used a gingerbread mix I bought in my favourite shop, Dille and Kamille when we visited Bruges in the summer. However you can easily make your own by adding 4 tsps ground ginger, 2 tsps ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg and 1/4 tsp ground cloves together.
Add the oil. I found 140ml was perfect but you add a little more or less depending on how your mixture looks.

Cover the bowl and leave overnight so the oil really soaks into the sugar.

Then spoon into air-tight jars, add a label and ribbon and you are ready to give your homemade gingerbread scrub.

You can easily double the ingredients if you wish to make more. The mixture smells divine and should leave your skin sparkling.

Today I’m taking part in a fun kid-made gifts series organised by Nadia at Teach Me Mommy.
