Fun in the kitchen with Ora

Posted on November 1, 2015August 11, 2017 by jenny

I’m feeling sad that help term is nearly over as we’ve had a lovely time. We’ve had visitors, lots of days out, been shopping for half term treats and managed to squeeze in a weekend away. One afternoon the children took part in a really fun cookery and craft session at The Lounge Cafe in West Hampstead sponsored by Ora. If you haven’t heard of Ora before they are round kitchen towels which are super absorbent and super strong. They come in a cone so are easy to grab with one hand, unlike conventional kitchen towel which needs to be torn.

When we arrived at The Lounge Cafe, which is a community cafe, the children immediately started carving pumpkins. This is something they have really embraced this year and both got stuck in carving their own designs. Little Sis doesn’t like getting her hands dirty but luckily there were plenty of Ora towels around to wipe sticky hands.

Next it was time for a cookery lesson. Both my children love to help in the kitchen so they were excited by the chance to cook and eat something they had made. They made a couple of things with the help of two wonderful cookery teachers.

First up was sour dough bread which was easy to make and the children liked putting their hands in the bowl with the dough.

We found it was easy to grab the Ora towels when they needed to wipe their hands or clean their table.

Whilst the bread was cooking in the oven we started on the Lentil and Spinach Soup, then Vegetable Curry. The children learned how to handle a knife correctly and chop their own vegetables.

They both enjoyed having their own little hob and stirring their saucepans and soon the room was full of delicious smells. Then it was time for their last creation, Banana and Chocolate Empanadas which were then warmed slightly in a frying pan. The children thought they were in heaven with this and we’ll definitely be making it again at home.

There was time for a little more crafting, did you know you can craft with Ora towels too? They make great ghosts and angels so I’m sure we’ll be making some of those at home too. We left laden down with our pumpkins and vegetable curry and rice for dinner (which was delicious). Thank you Ora for a fabulous afternoon and lots of fun in the kitchen. We were given a little recipe book and a tower of Ora paper towels so we can re-create our cookery lesson at home.

Ora towels are available in Tesco and are great for crafting, cleaning and cooking.
