Five Happy Things {Week 481}

Posted on December 31, 2023December 31, 2023 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while over the last few years. It is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I love to write and look back over.

Five Happy Things {Week 481}

I hope you had a lovely Christmas. Unfortunately we all came down with a cough which laid us all out, one by one. The kids got a computer (to build himself!) and the other received an iPad. I thought this would mean their pile of presents would be smaller but they seemed very fortunate to receive just as many as last year. I received some iPODs and some new books which have kept me busy.

We always love to receive board games and my son got a copy of Myrabi. This is a game we were introduced to a few weeks ago when we visited Food and Board, a board game cafe. It feels like we’ve played it every day since he opened it and it’s just as good as we remembered it to be.

Just before Christmas I ordered a set of pretty wooden embroidered ornaments for Little Stitchy Bee. You embroider them yourself and can hang them on your tree. I embroidered six of them but have left the other two for next Christmas.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to but I did finish my Goodreads 2023 Reading Challenge to read 35 books. There was a real mixture of books, lots of novels and lovely craft books too. I’ve set myself the challenge to read 35 books next year, I’d love to read more but it seems a realistic target for me.

Today we went and watched Wonka at our local cinema. I went with my 12 year old, whilst my husband watched Ferrari with the 13 year old. We loved Wonka, it was such a gorgeous film and I loved the way it referenced the earlier Charlie and the Chocolate Factory films.

Have a great week.

    Those ornaments are so beautiful! I love the rustic look. That’s my favorite kind of Christmas vibe.

    Wonka is such an awesome movie! I think it did a great job of being its own thing and still being a perfect prequel tie-in.

    It sounds like a mixed bag for your Christmas, but those thoughtful gifts surely brought joy despite the coughing setback. Building a computer and getting an iPad must have been exciting for the kids! Myrabi seems like a hit, especially after your experience at Food and Board. The wooden embroidered ornaments for Little Stitchy Bee sound like a delightful project, adding a personal touch to your tree. Wishing you a speedy recovery and continued enjoyment of your new gadgets and games!

    Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that you were ill over Christmas. That must have been annoying. Wonka is a great movie, we enjoyed it too!!!

    Oh we all got sick over Christmas too. It seems like something definitely went around this season, all of the extended family caught it so we’re just waiting until everyone is better to celebrate the missed holidays. I’m glad though you all managed to have a lovely Christmas and a trip to the cinemas is a nice treat after recovery ^_^
