The Maid's Secret by Nita Prose

Five Happy Things {Week 40/2025}

Posted on October 6, 2025October 8, 2025 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the little or big things that made me smile in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures.

Five Happy Things {Week 40/2025}

We spent the last week trying to enjoy the seasons but Hallowmas/Christoween continues and it’s so confusing. It feels like Halloween is being replaced by Christmas in the shops, and it’s far too early for me.

Halloween and Christmas display

Although I’ve been enjoying stitching the small motifs on my Christmas Countdown sampler so maybe I’m happier to embrace the festive than I think I am.

The weather has been better recently (apart from the tail end of the first storm of the year). We have been out and about, doing a tricky geocache whilst our daughter was at athletics club. We also went for a blustery walk through the old gravel pits near us, which the dog really enjoyed.

We’ve been trying to make our living space work better for a house with two growing teens. We booked a free home design consultation at our local John Lewis which was fun.

I finished reading The Maid’s Secret by Nita Prose. It was such a good story, more cosy crime than anything, and a great final story in the series.

    I love Christmas but it is coming sooner and sooner each year. It is too soon, I want to see Autumn and Halloween stuff on the shelves at this time of year.
    I am liking the weather we’ve been having too, apart from the storm. Ugh!
    The home design consultation sounds interesting.

      I want to enjoy the season before the next one, shops just want our money!

    I’m sure the gravel pits will have been quite pretty. I went for a walk too and almost got blown away. Glad that’s over!

    The Maid’s Secret is a great book! Cozy crime is the best way to describe it. It’s a nice book to curl up with.

    I FULLY embrace the holiday season. I know it’s not Halloween yet, but I’m already eyeballing our Christmas ornaments. LOL

    I HAVE to read the Maid’s Secret. The description reminds me of a Hallmark mystery movie in the best way possible.

    I was in TK Maxx looking at all the Halloween decorations and whilst doing that lots more Christmas decorations were being put out too. It does always seem super quick and early.

    I do agree with the confusion, I was in a shop last week and it seemed Halloween and Christmas were mixed together which did through me a bit

    I ALSO feel like everyone is skipping over Halloween! I enjoy Halloween so I really don’t understand what is going on. Pumpkin patches near me opened this week, close at the end, but I can already go to xmas trails?! It’s weird.

    I’ve only read the Christmas maid story and need to give the whole thing a read as I need a fast paced thriller to break things up. I know what you mean about Christmas/ Halloween. For me I find halloween is Aug/ Sep in shops and then as soon as 1st Oct hits it’s Christmas and I don’t mind it too much x
