Five Happy Things {Week 30/2025}

Posted on July 27, 2025 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me smile in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures.

Five Happy Things {Week 30/2025}

My kids finished Year 8 and Year 11. Their school finished later than all the others and they were so happy to start their summer holidays. My son immediately flew off to Bosnia with Explorers, and my daughter went to Scout camp in Dorset for a week. I know they will both have some amazing adventures with their friends.

The house has been quiet without the two of them. The fridge has remained full of food and I haven’t been washing clothes constantly. The first day without them was fine but I will be glad to have them both back home and the house busy again. Thankfully I still have my little pup who acts like a third child 🙂

I’ve been reading The Queen’s Necklace, an enthralling dual timeline Tudor mystery fiction book by Adrienne Chinn. It’s pretty good and I do love reading historical fiction.

I’ve had a major sort out with the kids being away. I’ve been listing lots of un-used craft kits and Sizzix dies on Vinted as I need the space. My craft supplies have got out of hand and I’m trying to focus on the projects I really want to make and selling unwanted ones.

We visited our local National Trust house and gardens, Hughenden Manor. Earlier this year we finished our first National Trust passport, so we bought another one. You can get them stamped at each place you visit. I also bought a special fabric badge as I keep thinking it would be fun to collect them and put them on a badge blanket for our days out. Both the kids have their own badge blankets so I thought it was time we had one too.

What’s made you happy this week?

    I made an amazing pot pie that the entire family ate with zero complaints. That made me happy. LOL

    It must be nice to have time to sort out whilst they are away – I know what you mean though, it is always a little too quiet when children are away. I hope they have had fun!

    Your kids did break up quite late! It’s nice to have a little break and time for yourself, hope you really enjoy it and relax.

    Reading a good book is always a happy thing for me, especially if it’s a good book. My happy thing this week is to spend some time away from the phone in a spa where phones aren’t allowed. That was awesome.

    It must feel very strange without the kids there but I’m sure they’re having loads of fun. I’ve been happy this week as our newborn has just started smiling and it’s so sweet x
